Norwegian Coast Guard vessel KV Heimdal in Aalesund 28. June, 2017:

An unusual detail of the Bulbous Bow:

Did they forget to grind down the ridge there, or does it have a purpose??

    Salvage pumps ready on deck:

Towing winch and Oil Boom ready for deployment:

I think the Heimdal seen above, and her sister Njord which is stationed at Trondheim, will be great ships to convert to houseboats or private yachts at end of navy-service.

I expect you miay have thought I'd be out to photograph the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth when she left Rosyth recently. Unfortunately she had to wait for the tide before she could be floated out of the dock - rather a tight squeeze - and I could see it was going to be nearly midnight before she headed under the bridges. So I wouldn't be able to reach Queensferry at that time. There isn't a viewpoint for that part of the naval dockyard anyway, the road bridge was closed, and the weather remained poor as she headed out of the estuary.

So I thought I'd link you to a more recent newspaper article about her - and this one is epecially for Jan-Olav!

            hahahahahahahahaha!

I asked my Chief Engineer to paint our starting air-compressors the same way and he looked at me like I was insane!

When a war ship can do it - we can do it too! For crying out loud, if the Captain wants a yellow minioin in the basement, he should get one!

WAOW.... love these new additions and my absolute favourite is the first image of the USS Leyte Gulf...

The image is really striking and super sharp... look at the heat from the exhaust!

Beautiful shot - such an atmosphere of "being there".

Another thing I like about these photos is how much the areas in the background has changed since I went to school in this beautiful city. When I rented a room at Bjørnebekken at the north end of the island, this was an area I passed every day when riding the bus to and from school.

Interesting indeed. As you say, back then nearly 30 years ago, it was just one place up on the north end, Bjørnebekken. Not much around there else... I seem to remember an outtake for gravel.

One day, I'll have to return to Tromsø and rent a car driving around to all the places I used to know, live and walk.

Pretty amazing to see how well she almost blends in with her background!

That is why they are gray.
Please remember a good navigation rule; "If it's gray, stay away". (refr. Fitz and JSM)

Thanks for the image of these war-ships of Norwegian Navy.

I saw a mine sweeper in Trondheim recently, and was hoping to catch her departure after the weekend, but suddenly she decided to leave when I was not in place.

At first, I thought this was the USS Berkeley which I vaguely remember from a visit to Trondheim a few years back, but clearly, that was another one (thank you google!).
