    World's NAVY SHIPS

This thread is based on the link belkow from our old home....
    http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/...pic.php?t=1461

Watching BBC Education right now and a programme about space accidends. Today their talking about Apollo 13, and showing pictures with the three survivor astronauts coming back and set foot on the deck of USS Iwo Jima.
That reminded me of MY first encounter with this "famous" carrier, when she anchored a couple of miles east of our summerhouse in Tingvoll in 1980.

Interesting image of a ship that really looks a bit macho to my eyes: like a bodybuilder at the gym...

"Ramnes" was the former main vessel of the SHV in Kristiansund.
It's whereabouts right now, I don't know (and that's rather unusaul for me...)

And in 2005 we had an unusual visit here. This is "Triton" which some say is a research vessel.
The colour, crew uniforms and type of flag led me to suspect that it at least has something to do with the british Royal Navy....

I'm surprised all you seafaring-types haven't said anything about the commissioning of the new US Navy aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush last Saturday

            http://www.nn.northropgrumman.com/bush/

            and here's the wikipedia link

My first reaction was typical for a girl..."oohhh" and "shinyyyyy"-----

I must say I loved that comment: here are us guys talking about horsepower, sizes (man's ultimate obsession?), lengths and weights, and then in the middle of it: a refreshing and very lovely comment.... "ooohhh" and "shiny".... Loved the refreshment!

Came across this image on the net..

This looks way more serious than a typical fire drill.. could anyone fill me in on any further details what was going on?

You're right, that's not an ordinary fire drill....., it's a huge fire on board one of the Royal Norwegian Navy minesweepers a few years back.
I see it before me, but I can't find the article right now....
The fire broke out in the visinity of Ålesund.
The ship was badly damaged, but are now rebuilt and back in service.
Sorry, can't remember the year or the name....

Coast Guard vessel Senja spent some time drifting around my island a few days ago, no idea what they were up to:

It seems odd to see a naval/coast guard vessel in gray with a glow in the dark orange lifeboat.
