  • Great photos - as ever - from Gaelsail. Fun to see some of the European summer visitors elsewhere on the planet.
    Cheers,

    Mark.

    • A very nice bundly of a variety of cruiseships!

The French Le Boreal and Le Austral is amongst the most beautiful looking yachts in the world right now, in my humble opinion. Love their design and color-scheme.

      • The Saga Ruby is still in Sattahip as far as I can see from a search on various AIS sites: http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/...372123/zoom:10
PS> I notice that my favourit seafood restaurant in Sattahip is marked on the map though.

The latest picture I could find was this one from Aug. last year however: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/...hp?lid=2098672

I don't find any news about the plans to make her into a floating hotel in Myanmar on the new Owner's website either.
The only thing I found was this article on Maritime Matters from Jan. last year: http://maritimematters.com/2014/01/s...s-burma-hotel/

Anybody else know anything about the faith of this, the last of the true liners??

        • Ohhh..... thanks a million for reminding me of that one!

I had forgotten all about the SAGA RUBY / OASIA..... as far as I remember, she was to become a floating hotel in Myamnar/Burma, right?

I hope there is still some kind of reasonable hope for her... she is one of the final. As we know, the Swedish America ship was scrapped earlier in November (as in beached at Alang).

          • I found a handful different images on Google Earth of the OASIA.... I really wonder what will happen with this ship, but I fear for her future too:

That is a rather scary photo. As a fan of smaller ships I just shake my head at cruise ships like that.

                I agree.
So many people afloat on what can be an unforgiving ocean..... I was talking to a friend of mine who went around Australia on one of the Princess ships. They had a lifeboat rehearsal at sea and apparently it was all confusing and passengers were every which way except correct..
                Doesn't inspire confidence.

            • I know we've seen her before but here is Diamond Princess in Singapore.

I must be getting old as the more I look at ships like this and Mariner of the Seas that was there yesterday the more I realize that it is not for me. Heck I even find myself looking around Singapore harbor and passing over the giant container ships and tankers to some of the smallest and think "that's about right".

              • I remember when Diamond Princess first started operation, she was very modern but at the same scary large... now, she is just a medium sized ship compared to the largest and some of those that are planned in the future. I think she looks rather funny with those gas turbines in her funnel...

                  • This ship is familiar to many on CVF. Seen at Singapore Cruise Terminal, Keppel Bay:

A bit unusual; she spent 2 days alongside in Singapore:

                    • Not too unusual with overnight stays at Crystal Cruises.... Hong Kong was always three (extremely hectic days), as well as an overnight at Singapore and the annual three days each Stockholm visit. Other places were also overnight places as per tradition..... don't remember all of them.

                          • The illegal pollution from Caribbean Princess which led to a record penalty in the US courts is back in the news in Scotland. The junior engineer whistleblower in the case is from Glasgow, and has been rewarded $1m.
