            It is amazing, how fast tecnology is proceeding. When Korsfjord started, it was quite new and innovative with LNG powered propulsion, and just some moments later it is about to be replaced by battery power. Quite a task on days with heavy winds and weather, when the ship will need multiple power! Will there be enough time then to recharge the batteries?
            I am reading a lot of test reports with the e-powered cars, and their promised range is pulverized in severe conditions.

              How about battery fire on board a ferry?
              The firebrigade say they struggle to extinguish a battery fire in a car, so in most cases they let it burn out.

                  Dear friends!

                  Thank you all for the comments and the feedback!

                  Yes, as Ralf says... back when K was new, LNG was the height of technology. Today, a good handful years later, the technology is nearly "outdated" already. As far as I understand, only a couple of ferry-tenders announced these days are "traditional propulsion". I think there is only one tender that requires diesel engines (Moss-Horten near Oslo). Mostly all are no alternative power, and especially batteries.

                  It will be an extremely exciting time in the months ahead as we have to adjust and learn the ways of batteries.

                  Apparently, the battery packs will be stored in enclosed containers similar to the LNG-engines of today. Fire is not impossible but difficult in controlled environment. Norwegian Maritime Directorate is leading the way with new stringent regulations I presume.

                  Crossing will be done by "computers" in an auto-crossing system.... while docking and departure will be "manually". Charging will be done automatically during the 3 minutes of terminal time every half an hour. There will also be auto-mooring systems by magnets, so that we don't need to haul those heavy ropes anymore.

                  Will be very exciting to see the future roll in now....
