Re: Model ships, model ship building and model ship clubs.

I received some new models, mostly from Arte Nautica. I paired them with some of my existing models for a couple of pictures:

First are models of the Galileo Galilei/ Guglielmo Marconi. In front is a CM model of the original sisters. To the left we have a CM model reworked as Chandris' Galileo and a Degen model of the same ship as Celebrity's Meridian. On the right is Arte Nautica's Costa Riviera and a Degen version repainted as the short-lived American Adventurer.

Next is the MSC Cruises Fleet. Top is Arte Nautica model of MSC Fantasia, next is Scherbak model of MSC Musica. Below her is sold onboard metal model of MSC Lirica, painted and removed from base. Final two are both by Arte Nautica of MSC Opera and Melody.

Finally are 1960 Holland America liners. Top is CM's Rotterdam. Next is Noordzee's Nieuw Amsterdam. Below her is the Statendam by Hansa, and finally Ryndam by Albatros.

Love seeing the company / fleet line-up.

By lining up old and new ships within the same company, you can really see and tell a lot about how the company has evolved and how times have changed.

This thread unlocked again. Apologies for slowness, but it's in the dreaded 'General Interest' section which has a mind of its own.
              Cheers,

I intended to write a new entry in my blog about this, but I guess I can also do it here.

A former farm building went up in flames not long ago, but the building was not used for farming any longer. The building was the workshop of a local model boat builder, and while he was away on holiday, the barn caught fire.

He lost absolutely everything inside - new and old model boats, and an almost unimaginable amount of value.

This is nothing but a tragedy I think, and I can't even fathom how horrible this is.

It made me think of the students who lost their work in the fire at the Glasgow School of Art, and of the artist of the White Temple at Chiang Rai whose years of work was affected by an earthquake.

I get crotchety enough when typed post that has taken me ages to compose gets lost in cyberspace…
But then we picked ourselves up after losing old forum and started anew here on CVF didn't we.

Second post here today. I have for some time been in communication with the man behind this wonderful model of the Voyager of the Seas.

I think I may have shared links from the building before (?).

Anyhow, here is his latest film, showing the absolutely stunning model at "sea".

Wonderful model and clearly a labour of love. I’m also sure the thoughts of everyone who watches this will then have strayed to some ship that is special to them, wishing they had such a model as this!

Lots of images of beautiful MODEL SHIPS at the webpage of Bergen Scale ModelShip club:
