                                in that case why have they stepped away from the right bow of the 20's to the long angled bow?

                                I don't know, but the steeply angled bow looks better and more jazzy, perhaps?

                                The steep bow of the 20s was easier to build when ships were riveted and bending heavy plates were difficult.
                                Flared bows were supposed to give "uplift" to keep the deck dryer, but it also gave more slamming.
                                As the ships get bigger, fuel more expensive and research cheaper due to computer modelling, it is possible to create the "ultimate" bow shape.
                                The fact that the X-Bow looks a lot like the bow on the Viking "Knarr" is not lost on those who study such things though. (Back to the Future?)
