She is finished with the assignment for the Governor of Svalbard for season 2017.

I know the Captain of that ship - the brother of my own navigator, and my class-mate many years back.

Will try to pass on a link to this page so that he can see himself.

Nice to see a familiar "trønder" so far north (trønder is a local term for people from mid-Norway / Trondheim area).

"Polarsyssel" arrived in Tromsø last night after been laid up for almost two months.

They prepare the ship before they take on board various equipment and set course for Longyearbyen for a new season again.

Wonderful image of Polarsyssel from Tromsø, Sir Azimut.

Knowing one of the key persons on board, I had a whiff of information about two weeks ago, that the ship was due to make a short stop in Trøndelag. Despite it being a night watch week, I could not let this opportunity pass.

In case you didn't catch my post in my bLOG: http://www.captainsvoyage.com/its-a-...rds-vesse.html

After putting in so much tollway money, gas, time and kilometres to get these images .... I dare myself to share the rest of the images also:

I'm so happy I made the extra effort to get these shots of POLARSYSSEL - the Governor of Svalbard's own vessel:

PS: I just noticed that the resolution of the images on here is actually terrible.....

I'm so happy you made the effort Jan-Olav. Striking pictures in a lovely light and surroundings of a ship that interests me a lot.

I'd love to see over one of these ships; in a funny way they look quite elegant, very stable (I think) and although the resolution isn't great - the ships still look inviting.
                  Thanks for posting, Captain.

                Nice vessel, nice pictures!

That ubiquitous response "Thanks for sharing" just isn't anywhere near enough.
I am actually feeling highly honoured to have been allowed to see onboard this special ship, and to have the opportunity to do that through the camera lens of a master.

That's "master" two ways - as a Captain, the chance to cast a professional eye over that bridge must surely have sent the pulse racing, and, as the master of photography I know you to be, you have as always captured and conveyed the experience and the surroundings. May I especially mention the colours, reflections and light of #8. And look how the view of the deck in #10 parallels the curve inside. You do the architect proud…

And as for furnishings - we could enthuse about chairs all day long!

Indeed Cecilia - suddenly Ekornes is everywhere!

nice images, but the vessel is to ugly to look at.
it would be better than old style vessels, but the looks of them. yuk.
                  best regards Thijs
