    • GUNNERUS is such a cute vessel: stationed in Trondheim, Norway, and operating as a science vessel for the local University. They are manned with mostly volunteer, part-time crew-members.

I have photographed this vessel more times than I dare admit, but with so little ship movements in this fjord, she becomes a natural draw for me. After all, she is a very nice looking vessel.

Great pictures (as always). As for the GUNNERUS, she got her name from Johan Ernst Gunnerus who lived in the 1700s and was one of the founders of Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab and he was also a bishop in Trondheim ;-)

      • One more image of the GUNNERUS near Trondheim:

          • Gunnerus is such a satisfying-looking vessel that really appeals to me. Indeed after seeing images of her along with Kong Harald in your blog, I was motivated to look up more about her. Here is an informative link about the vessel (and also her predecessor).
I also highly recommend a click or two to the topics 'Research areas' and 'Research activities' of NTNU - very impressive.

            • The link you are mentioning may have fallen out, but still, I agree, Gunnerus is a very nice looking vessel.

I have never been on board her, but I have walked dockside looking at her and she would be perfect converted to private purposes at end of service.

Interesting pictures. You could have doubts if her captain can see you without radar and GPS. We can't spot him on these pictures.

              • WAOW - the old girl Polargirl from 1962 is still in operation!

Warm memories takes me back to late 80's when I served on board as a deckhand during FishGuard patrols off Sørøya.

Almost as deep in the water like a river freighter, For sure no delight in heavy seas...
But located in Hastad, i suppose, she is mostly travelling through fjords and behind islands, actually she is moored in Eidkjosen.
                        Working...
