mmmm- it was yummy (and Xiamen was very cold and blustery and wet--had much more fun sitting in the Bistro facebook chatting with a former cellermaster of Symphony and catching him up on all his friends who are now on Serenity--a little like being an operator! )

Dane- it was a fun evening. Started off with grilled watermelon and goat's cheese, while my Mom had sweetbreads...then a little chopped salad with shallot vinagrette while Mom had chilled cuke and avocado soup. She had a beautiful swordfish with her ever-present chardonnay whilst I had some divine venison with blueberry and pecan crust . Our head waiter made us cherries jubilee for dessert. Yep, life is rough. As I sit up on deck 12 right now, in a peaceful corner with a glass of champagne typing away, Master Okland is sitting about 30 meters away. J-O, where are you when I need you???

I have to tell you a little story...Last night was the Captain's Welcome party. So when my mom and I got through the receiving line, after our "photo opportunity" I got very brave and said to Captain Okland that my dear friend had worked for him, and when I mentioned J-O's name, he said "Storli? Oh, he's like a SON to me!" It was special....you know we all think our Captain is special...but it was nice realizing that others think well of him, too......

Ok, Ok, I’ll permit you to save the brave outdoors for your Norwegian cruise!! . . . seeing as you’ve been so kind as to share dinner with us – I can practically taste that crusted venison –
. . . but especially for telling us Captain Okland’s words.

I will tell Ruel "hi" from you tonight, J-O--Neptune Dinner tonight, Silk Road tomorrow, and Prego on Friday!! (but I am trying to change that, as Friday is also French Dinner, and you know about my feelings on escargots....................lol ..and it's the Crystal Society party Friday as well.)

Got "cornered" by the Catholic priest on board at dinner last night, when he asked me if I would be coming to Mass on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or on Easter--said that I was welcome at any or all of the above...you would have laughed at me hemming and hawing...umm---ing and errr-ing..it was quite funny!!!!!

Will eat a shrimp for all my CVsibs and toast you all with some yummy Austrian Gruner Veltliner tonight--really do wish you were all with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shanghai tomorrow--anyone need some designer knock-offs???????

I agree, going to church will not prevent the conversion of the good food into spare tyres.
Which plans do you have to compensate the described 8.000 calories per day?
Maybe you should send some pictures of the spa??

(This is just a comment of a jealous person. Enjoy yourself!)

It's chilly this morning!! I'm sitting on the balcony so I won't bug my mom...and we are in the container port (Serenity is just a little bit too tall to make it under the bridge in Shanghai proper- Symphony can, by her sister can't) so we are amid the auto ships and the container ships..so I'm sitting here watching TEU's being loaded......back and forth the trucks go--The 2TEUs are stacked 7 or 8 high on land --every logo you can imagine--Maersk, Yang Ming, Kline and others I don't recognize...I love watching the whole process (does this make me a geek?? LOL) Going to see the Jade Buddha in a bit, then we sail for Nagaski at 2pm....and you would NOT believe what the Japanese are having us go through to be processed when we arrive...all but a retinal scan--fingerprints and everything!!! Have taken lots of photos, but the Japanese are about to take away our internet once we get into their waters..so you might not here from me until I get home. Wish I had all of you along--I'm sure I would be learning so much more!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Elizabeth how wonderful. Sounds to me that with all the port activity you actually have the advantage not getting under the bridge!

So in case we don’t hear from you, let me wish you a great time in Japan. I really loved it. Went to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nagoya (for FI race at Suzuka) but didn't get to Nagasaki. In spite of those great meals you’re getting on Serenity I hope you’ll get a chance to have a meal ashore in Japan, as that is special. I was fascinated that restaurants (at least the less westernised ones) often specialise in one particular thing or cooking style – so you may need to choose what you want to eat before choosing the restaurant (and taking your shoes off!).

Not to forget the measuring of the temperature of all passengers...

It's almost like one of those latest US Immigration/Customs inspections for foreign ship's crew arriving in US port from for example a world cruise. Seems like the Japanese have followed the new strict regulations which Brazil was first to to copy from the US.

Kind of take the fun out of cruising.

What will the next be? Installation of tracking chips in all foreign nationals?

                                Has the world gone mad?
