Crystal Cruises goes cold - Crystal Symphony in Antarctica

As some of the most awake of our dear members have noticed, Crystal Symphony is headed for the Antarctic peninsula today.

Yesterday, on December 30th 2008 she was spotted in Ushuaia and today, she is bound for the icy continent.

In the days ahead, weather permitting, her webcam may offer some spectacular views.

Let's get together and see if we can manage to collect some of those web cam images while you are online:

Looks like the Crystal Symphony has reached Antarctica

I also found her at Live Ships Map. The Clipper Adventurer is also in the area.

Looks like they are heading for the exact same route we did back in early 2005.

Right now they would then be heading for the ... what is that sound named again?

For those of you that would like to see how the 2005-voyage was, you may look through some of the 58 pages in this old-board thread:

Looks like they are headed for Lemaire Channel when seeing her webcam right now.

Here are some glimpses from above mentioned thread, so-called teasers:

I think the tip of the island on the right in this and previous cam shot is of Wednesday Island, then, Lemair Channel should be right ahead.

Back in 2005 there was way too much ice in the channel and we could not go through it, but I know they may be giving it a second try today. Can't wait to see.

Here is a map of her postion at this moment. Looks like she is heading through a channel... She has the speed of 9.4 knots.

Thanks... that island looks like Anver Island, an island which has a research station on it. I'm sure they are going to make a friendly stop-and-visit.

The channel (or sound) they are now in I think is Bismarck Strait.

As far as I can see on Google Earth the large Island is Anverse Island, the channel is called Neumayer kanal and the island on the right is Wiencke island, but I am not sure if I am on the right place here...

Oh, yes.. thanks for checking it up.... then it seems like they are ahead of schedule, because in 2005 we completed the Neumeier Channel at sunset and we has to stop and drift for the night at the northern entrance of the channel.

They may have skipped the Lemair Channel then this year, or have been way earlier ahead of the 2005-schedule.

Neumeier Channel is stunning - that I can promise you all.

Here are two additional shots as of now:

Looks like she is in good company. The LYUBOV ORLOVA and AKADEMIK SERGEY VAVILOV is also in the area.
