  • Oooops, this is how fast things happen in our internet world.

Just got a message from Photobucket. All my images on CVF are gone.

I will never pay $399,- for a year of use, so...., goodbye good people and dear friends who I've met over the years. Take care, I'll miss you

    • Is there any alternative to Photobucket? The best thing would be direct upload from ones computer, but I understand that's impossible in this forum version.
      Regards; Sigve.

Sigve, that must be so disappointing. I know someone who has been using Flickr with no problems for years. Also Image Shack is supposed to be good but I don't know anything about it. And direct upload to CVF is not possible. Try looking at options on Google - maybe Seagull can help?

flickr and Google photos are probably the better alternatives if you want it more or less free.

    • hi, same thing , I had a message also from photobucket saying my photos were disabled . It was also so difficult having to go through photobucket all the time always problems. Nothing ever stays the same ,so hard trying to keep up with it all. Love to all on CVF. kiki

Hi Ivy, I am fine, but now Photobucket have deleated all photos and will not work with 3rd party I dont have anything to add now to CVF. I actually asked how to close my account but not had a reply. I am off to Cyprus in October, so still travelling. My mum at 95 is still doing well,so it is a visit to Scotland later. Hope you are well. kiki

    • I first noticed missing photos from Sterkoder, and then read Sigve's post. Now I see there are a lot of unhappy and angry Photobucket users on, for example, http://blog.photobucket.com/status/

I have only ever used Photobucket as a means of posting on this forum. I don’t even updoad full resolution photos, just resized ones specifically to fit the forum’s display. But I've posted a lot of photos and so upgraded to a paid-for account (allowing 20GB of storage) a couple of years ago. At the end of April I again renewed this annual Photobucket subscription of $35

All my forum photos are still displaying, and so I suppose that would continue until 27-April-2018.
I believe pakarang also has a paid for Photobucket account, but don't yet know when his current subscription ends or what all this means for the decisions he was making.

      • If this is a serious attempt by PB to force their customers to take a 500 GB account they will be seeing an exodus from their site.
This forum will probably die as well.

        • This is an assault from Photobucket on its customers, amazing that they can do something like that.
          What a shame!
Can not imagine that there are many who want to pay 400 dollars a year to save the pictures in such a place.

We just have to wait to see what will happen to this forum after this event.
          Best wishes from

          • I have always used Flickr with few problems, and those were minor and only when they upgraded. I use Photobucket only when posting a photo that is not mine into the What Place Is This thread. My Flickr account is a free PRO one with 1TB available - I first acquired it so many years ago but for the life of me I cannot now remember why it's free!

Later: Memory has dug deep -
I think it was when Flickr became part of the Yahoo stable. My ISP was at the time in some sort of partnership with Yahoo so it seems that gave me some kind of privileged status. Hence the freebie.

            • These are the current terms from Photobucket: Types of Accounts, Pricing and Limits
              • Visiting : There is no cost to visit the Site or to register as a Member.
              • Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time.
              • Ad-free Account : The Ad-free Account offers Members the ability to use the Site without seeing any third party banner advertisements when logged into your Ad-free Account (note, viewers of your images within Photobucket will see ads unless they, too, have Plus accounts and you will continue to see Photobucket offers and announcements). This account level is available for $2.49 / month, payable by the Member on a monthly recurring basis.
              • Plus Account : The Plus Account offers several paid options that may give the Paying Member more storage, bandwidth, 3rd party image hosting, image linking and/or other services as outlined below. Once and during such period of time in which you subscribe to and pay for a Plus Account, we will consider you a "Paying Member." Please note that all Plus Account subscriptions are billed annually at the commencement of the service. Photobucket may also offer a monthly billing option for its Plus Accounts (see terms and restrictions, below).
              • Available Plus Account Plans : Photobucket offers the following Plus Account Plans:
o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.

Conclusive test.We have to cross our fingers, hoping Flickr will not be as venal as Photobucket in the future.

              • Ok, I must try to start from zero again and open an account with Flickr.

                • Ok, this might be my way to continue on CVF.
And a good thing on Flickr; instead of a limit of uploading 8 pictures (if I have let's say 32), I can now upload all 32 in seconds instead of 8 pictures four times.

Yes, guess I'm back (then again I guess I haven't been away).
From now on it's Flickr for me, and deny Photobucket the $ 25,- they want pr. year at the next renewal.
Just posted a lot of pictures now, both in the cruiseships in Norway thread and This is Ålesund :-)

                • I don't know why so many of you stuck with the Bucket for so long! On the rare occasions when I used it for a What Place puzzle pic. it drove me mad.
When I joined Flickr years ago it had an excellent layout for a member's Photostream page, with individual images cleanly spaced on the page and the named Collections shown down the side, all easily accessible with one click. Then they went for the fancy Photostream layout they now use, with no spacing between photos and varying widths of the pic. to fit the page. Annoying, but no great problem. It is always quick and straightforward to use and, if one wishes, there are many groups to join for those who specialise in a particular topic. With an allowance of 1TB, what more can one want?

                  • Totally agree with you, but personally I stuck with PB because I didn't have the problems all you others seem to have. (Why change something that works, and all that...., see?).
Anywhay, I'm convinced and just made my Flickr account. Easy to use.
A big difference, and a big advantage over PB is that you (one) can click on the image clickable code in CVF (in blue under each picture) and you'll enter the picture on Flickr.
Then you can study a enlarged version of it, if you want to..., without having to store it on your computer and then enlarge it.

To those still belive in PB out there, Flickr is easier and a much better place to store images (I'm not affraid to edmit when I've been wrong or "old fashioned" ).

                    • You don't even have to click on the code, Svein, just click on the pic. itself. And also, if for some reason you want to post a smaller image of a photo on CVF (like I do for my birthday greetings pics.),.then it is easy to view all the sizes available. Just click on your image so that it goes to the page from where you can share it, then click on the icon for downloading (the fourth one along) and on the dropdown menu click View All Sizes. Up comes the page where you can click on each size and it will display the pic in that size. Then return to the share page and copy the URL for posting. There's all sorts of jolly little things you can do.

                      • I will follow Sterkoders way and open a Flickr-account soon. It is quite astonishing what happens to Photobucket. It is a sign, which lawless space the www is, A fair and understandable way to bring people in a payed account would have been, to announce a fair way of change while keeping the old pictures in the status, they were. Maybe, i would have decided to change into a pro-membership, but to be forced like this.... never ever. I will keep the free account for a while to see, if they remember how to behave politely. And if not -- "Scheiss drauf!!"

The best solution however will be to change to a new forum platform like Mark proposed - including Photo hosting. But J-O and Mark shall decide. I am prepared to participate on the costs.
