    Re: Seagull away a while . . .

Ivy! How exciting to hear that you might be able to to go Fram-spotting, and maybe we could even meet up. Anyway let me explain all the relevant details and you can see if any of it fits in with your comings and goings. In any case I’m sure this is of general interest, and I’m including useful hints for Fram-stalkers!!!!!

I think I mentioned earlier that there has been a change from what was originally stated in the brochure itinerary, and Fram will now be moored near Tower Bridge. The expected mooring is Tower Bridge Upper, (TBU, rather than the lower TBL) upstream from the bridge, and actually alongside the museum ship HMS Belfast!.
Thus the cruise passengers check in at the terminal across the river near the Tower of London at Millennium Pier and get tendered across.

The previous cruise arrives Tuesday 30th and the passengers have sightseeing options and stay onboard overnight. My cruise embarks Wednesday 1st May afternoon.

I checked the Tower Bridge site and see that the bridge is scheduled to open for Fram to pass through on Tuesday at 16:15 Webcam watchers can keep a look out here!

We’re flying from Edinburgh to London City Airport, arriving 10:25 am, Cityjet rather than British Airways, which should be interesting and new experience. So should have reached the hotel by lunchtime, and will obviously be around at some suitable vantage point for Fram’s arrival.

On Wednesday 1st May we check in at the terminal and embark from 14:30.
Departure is at 16:45 and I see that the Tower Bridge Bridge opening time is at 17:00

Cecilia, we most certainly must meet up! I'm staying just off Whitehall, getting there about lunchtime and am a free agent for Tuesday afternoon - and Wednesday come to that although I'm trying to fit something else in for that day.
I'll sort myself out and then email you so that we can decide on where and when. It would certainly be fun to see Fram arrive. (Mind you, she's a bit big for my liking. Serenissima is more my size and I'm determined, next year, to go on that journey I mentioned or whatever they put on which is similar.)

...funny, what happens, when i am just 6 days away (mostly) working.

So this period is really really short to give you some assistance and recommendments as i did on your Baltic Cruise on discovery, where you also seemed to be not really happy before... and it turned out to be wonderful. And as you say: Hey, it's Fram.

As for Hamburg: if you are there a couple of nights, don't miss these places:

MS Cap San Diego (i suppose your accommodation is booked yet, this would have been the perfect place):
http://www.capsandiego.de/ ...watch the video. The ship is open daily as museum.

Nearby: Nice place for a meal:
            http://www.das-feuerschiff.de/

A must: a walk through the old Elb tunnel
            http://www.hamburg.de/alter-elbtunnel/

Just teriffic: the model railways - don't ever miss it:
            http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/

If you want to make a harbour tour, take the smallest boat you can find and the longest tour. This is most thrilling and most interesting, don't mind, if they talk only German, you will understand most of it. We choosed this company "ABC Barkassen" and it was great. They are on the rear side of the Landungsbrücken, but you will find the office. Book the "Große Hafenrundfahrt". Don't take one of the loud and big ships. You won't see even half as much - although they give some small English information.
            http://www.abc-barkassen.de/46/Gro%C...rundfahrt.html

If you will need any help for Hamburg, send me a mail or give me a call!

            Have fun!

I see that Fram's on her way from the Tyne now.

I guess that the most reliable timings come from Tower Bridge - due to lift at 1615 tomorrow (30th) for the upstream passage, and 1700 for departure on Wednesday.

Was supposed to be at Earl's Court all week for an exhibition - could have gone Fram, Ivy and Cecilia spotting - but the world has conspired against me.

Edit: Just realised C told us the timings. If you see a brain lying around, hardly used, it could well be mine ....

Not enough space to turn by HMS Belfast (where she'll be mooring) so she has to come in backwards!

Great webcam saves! You'll have to wait for my photos and the one "cabin-mate" took when Seagull and Wherrygirl met for a leisurely afternoon lunch!

When we realised Fram was arriving backwards, we decided to take photos from the other side of Tower Bridge, near our lunch venue, so these should perfectly complement those webcam views. We then scampered along in time to see the ship mooring alongside HMS Belfast. Fram certainly attracted the attention of the tourist crowds, and yes she hooted and it sounded wonderful!

So I'll be leaving tomorrow in the right direction!!!!!!
