Comment on bLOG update of 2018-Jun-21: Throwback Thursday – week 25/2018

Though this blog entry spoke of a throw-back to "exactly one year in time to June 21st 2017", you immediately had your doubts about having remembered the day and details correctly. Yes, you're correct in the date NOT being correct, Captain! …that's to be expected given the wonderfully full life you lead so fruitfully from moment to moment, so you shouldn't be blaming dubious diagnoses and old age forgetfulness.

It takes a really old, slow, frequently inarticulate but detail-fanatical c-gull to complete the story ...what a great team we are!

Actually you were just two months early. That first class flight experience took place in AUGUST the 21st 2017.

But I didn't think you'd posted that 360 degree style image before ...'cos surely I'd have remembered that snazzy blue shirt/cufflinks/tie combo! But by now totally intent on tracking this down in what little spare time I have on an 'F1 on TV day', I eventually found the image on an Instagram account of yours! It has no ladycgull ♥ because, although that account originally sported a Lookchin Bear in minion fancy dress photoshopped piccy of mine as a 'profile picture', (SO proud!), I didn't do any mobile type stuff way back then - so when you did start using that account again years later as a private account I was still missing out on it at the time of your image post.

Yes I've flown A380, but I hope I'll get around to fully responding to your actual end of blog 'questions for reader feedback' eventually in a personal experience comparison of aircraft, airlines, and my long haul route choices. Meanwhile I recollect there is interesting discussion somewhere in the forum of the A380 in the context of the economics of the worldwide aviation industry and the geographical location and particular economies of the Gulf States.

HAHAHAHA..... it takes a Seagull to know what is the right day of my life! Good one!

I usually base my information on the image name: in my system, I name files in the exactly same way.

I start with YYYY_MM_DD (camera used) - followed by image content/place + numbering from camera.

Clearly, I must have skipped a heartbeat and off course oversaw the date this time. You are 100% correct. August 21st 2017 it is, on board HS-TUC.

When compared against each other, I prefer the B747 over an A380, but if I can choose from all shelves, I would off course pick the A350.

I do the year - month - day - time thing too, but usually without any place/content in the name. That's in a spreadsheet which was originally intended as a kind of to-do list of what sets of photos (such as a day out or a holiday) I’d sorted through and edited. There isn't much sorting and editing gets done these days, other
than selecting photos to share. But I can usually manage to find things I want fairly quickly.

Comment on your wonderful TT wk26 while I'm here ...for sure that's my Captain's smiling eyes! But it's those hands that I'm drawn to in that old photo. You've always had 'grown-up' hands! Perhaps you thought so too, consciously or not, when you took the photo of a photo of your hand holding the photo.
That's inspired, and strangely moving ...you and you now.

The sorting and editing photos certainly takes times and is what makes a dedicated person differ from a casual photographer, right?

I'm trying my best at sorting as best as I can, but always seem to fall behind, never really managing to catch up 100%.

Like when making videos, that is even way more time consuming. That is really hard! I have gotten a new-found respect for really active vLoggers understanding that they can't have a job in addition - vlogging is their full time job.

The 'panorama' format of that photo really appeals to me, but most of all I felt almost startled at seeing that OVDS livery in your photo! Astonishing reaction really, considering it was how half the fleet looked when I first became interested in and started to travel with hurtigruten,

The year 2000 was when I first took digital photos, the APS film-system having completely passed me by. I don't miss the old film photography at all, at least as colour film, but maybe am a tiny bit nostalgic of b&w from the days I processed the films myself and printed my own photos. It was when I had darkroom facilities in my work - so that would be my astronomy era in Cambridge, before moving to Scotland in 1975.

btw before you ask, I have also read your other blog update about Trondheim and cities generally. So much to think about there. I think for now I'll just ponder on it and perhaps allude to your blog when I get around to posting again in my Trondheim thread.
And I hope you didn't miss my feedback on your personal TT wk26 - I was in a hurry then too, and stuck my response in with a cvf comment #185.1 to your last post.

Thank you so very much for your insight and comments!

Me too, I don't really miss the old-style film photography. It was so .... ehh... restrictive: only 24 images, and then you had to pay for the processing, and having to wait for several days before the pictures were done + travel to and from town twice to pick them up. The came mail order printing, but it was still such a hassle back then.

I remember all the films and pictures I took on the SS Norway - each week going ashore to have them printed at a nearby mall. Each week meant new films and new photographs: some of which were terrible!

Digital photography really made picture taking popular and suddenly everybody was a photographer.

I won't go back again. Especially not to printing my own pictures: something I have NEVER done.

Check out my Youtube account for the latest videos, I have started transferring old VHS tapes to a digital file. A lot more to be shared in the future.

Really needed to start this project because these old tapes are quickly degrading their quality.

Don't even remember everything that I have on all those tapes yet.

One step at a time, one tape at a time.

Thank you very much for watching, Sterkoder! I hope you enjoyed your coffee pot and your time looking, not only yesterday and today, but for many more videos coming in the future. I have a full box of good stuff to digitalise and share on wards - especially looking forward to see the private videos I did whilst working on cruise ships in the Caribbean and all over the world. There is a lot of material.

I had the pleasure to drive such one a few weeks ago. My friend took care for it and sold it now for € 40.000+. And it was far not in such shiny shape. What shall i say. Lould, slow, bumpy, hard to steer and brake, smelling as gasoline, gear shifting difficult, but such an admirable look. I of course prefer my new t6 for travels. And for historic driving a T2b after 1973. disk brakes, more powerful engine, more comfortable steering, less noise, so much more fun to drive.

                          Thank you very much, Ralf!

Despite all it's flaws, I still can't stop loving this iconic car.

That being said, I think that if I ever got a car like this, I would have it modified to perfection without all these flaws.

These buses, isn't the fuel tank located under the front seats? Or is that another old veteran car I think of?
