Captains travel bLOG: Back to Hong Kong with love, part 3, continuation...

Last update for tonight, I have made it over to Hong Kong island with the Star Ferry, and it was time to return to my hotel and prepare for the activities of the night. I'm not here to sleep, so day or night, it's out experiencing things!

Star Pisces had departed and was making her way out to see for a nightly casino-cruise:

But before hotel, I intended to replace my several year old Apple watch because it's battery lasts only a handful of hours now, but the salesman was so honest that he recommended me waiting till September when a new model is due to be released.

Hong Kong at night is probably as beautiful as daytime, if not more beautiful:

Huh. Difficult to catch up with your speed.... well, you are right with the Lambo, and the Rolls is really a beauty - distinguished British in dark green with cream leather! Even more if you compare it with the (my opinion) totally boring and niggling Maybach. Sorry, i know you like the Maybach...

Interesting compilation of articles, sure most of them worth to be opened in an own thread - and the Boeing is just too expensive for a ferry Captains salary, isn't it?
All together they show the madness of the place, PR video against ethnic conflict, air pollution and a totally crazy Kai Tak airport against your nightly feelings,
The fascination of famous places and the fact that we are suffering more and more with worlds overpopulation, focussing most extremely in mega cities and cruise industry destinations.

          Thank you so much, Ralf!

I will try to post one update each day in the days ahead - otherwise I'll never reach the finish line.

Maybach is a beauty, yes, but it's also so outdated and now, old-fashioned. It's way too expensive to buy, maintain and keep running. Those gas-guzzling cars are soon heading towards their ultimate end. They are so in the opposite end of the environmental friendly scale. With over-priced Tesla and other battery cars, I think that's where the future lies.

I'm still not convinced that battery cars is the ultimate future though. The production of batteries and their various components are depleting the earth for valuable resources, and we have not yet seen an honest evaluation whether these cars are as environmentally friendly as they try to make them be.

That B767 is unfortunately too expensive for me, but had I been a millionaire, I would have loved to convert one to my own house.... and the 767 has an impressive square footage as well.

There are some serious questions you raise as well, regarding over population of cities and mega-cities. I tend not to focus too much on that in Hong Kong, because I know there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I can't even do anything about the Norwegian governments great wish that everybody lives in a handful big cities in Norway. Look at Finnmark county, it's almost abandoned.

Hospitals gets centralised, counties are being merged, police stations are moved to the hearted big city.... I don't think that is any good. I feel devastated to see and read about communities that have been abandoned to the advantage of cities.

But what can we expect from politicians that has NEVER worked in a normal job, that has NEVER been without a governmental salary and pension, that has no connection and no feeling towards the country side. They see money, and money only. People are just there to work their asses off so that they can collect taxes to all their wild antics and to support their salaries and other social benefits.

Captains travel bLOG: Back to Hong Kong with love, part 4

Early this morning, I had some meetings that had to be done first, and after that a quick change (from business suit to comfortable clothes) ensued. As quickly as I was back in more "normal" attire, whatever that is, I headed out to explore more of Hong Kong. I wanted to track a little higher up in the hills of Hong Kong island and stumbled upon the Olympic Square. I actually had a great time people watching here: people of all ages came to do their exercises as well as picnics... and perhaps same came to do exactly hat I did: people watching.

2019_03_13 EOS5D HONG KONG-IMG_7478 by Captain Jan-Olav Storli, on Flickr

Then, a little later on I saw this fire station of a major road... kind of cute with the big red doors, the colour of China's flag too.

Space is tight in Hong Kong, so buildings must grow up to fully take advantage of the limited and very highly priced pieces of land:

Back down to the sea again, to an area I really enjoy very much: the Central Pier of Hong Kong island. I love the art-deco style of the terminal, which houses some shops, a maritime museum, Star Ferries as well as other ferries to nearby islands and places. The building actually reminds me of Disneyland. LOL.

There is a lot of artwork in Hong Kong, as long as you keep your eyes open. This one is located at the harbour promenade at Hong Kong island.

Every Sunday, all the Indonesian and Filippino domestic workers (maids and drivers) in Hong Kong has a day off, and these vast open green spaces will be filled with thousands of them picnicking and relaxing out with other friends. There are church masses held here, there are food being made, eaten and sold, they sell clothes and smaller trinkets and some just sleep. At the day of this image, there were only a very few out.... not a Sunday.

A short ferry hop with the Star Ferry and I'm on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong looking back at Hong Kong island. The big building in the centre is the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The green boat is one of the Star Ferries operating between Kowloon and HK island.

There are a lot of very nice places to sit and relax around the harbour promenade on both sides of Victoria Harbour. Some are recently made and incorporated. There is always people there, never seems to be asleep.

We are heading for the evening, and before I returned to the hotel to prepare for a very nice business dinner, I still got some time to see the evening arrive:

Again, such a nice mix of "memories" of locations I recollect from when you were there, and other new ones such as Olympic Square. I like 'the colour red' theme of the fire station doors, and the sail of the boat in #141/4 (to me a more satisfying and special an image than the earlier one in part 3).

Captains travel bLOG: Back to Hong Kong with love, part 5

I would like to continue with some photographs or impressions from my last trip to Hong Kong. This time, I have chosen some images of the luxury cars I saw during my days there. Hong Kong has an extremely high concentration of luxury cars, including Rolls Royce. I think I have read somewhere that Hong Kong has the highest number of Rolls Royce compared to anywhere else in the world.

How would this blood-red beauty fit you?

I have never been a great fan of Bentley or their design concept. I think my dismay starts with the headlights.... it just doesn't look right to me.

The Mercedes Maybach is nice, but I prefer the older version in S57 and S62 ahead of the new version:
