ACDSEE Photo Manager 2.5 and MAC

ACDSEE Photo Manager 2.5 and MAC.

I have been a great fan of the ACDSee photo program for many years and I was planning to purchase and download it for use on my iMAC as well. I have been using the previous versions on Wondows for the past 6-7 years and have been very satisfied with it's lay out and simplicity.

After downloading a 30-day trial version though, I realize they do not support MAC....

The trial version from their website is an .exe file, which I guess means MAC doesn't like it... (MAC uses .dmg files).

    How irritating.

I use the ACDsee 2.5 PRO as well and enjoy it a lot, so I unserstand your frustration. But I have no experience with Mac at all. I am a Windows-person.
I do by the way have a Acer One mini-laptop as well with Linux Linpus lite operative system, and I can not install ACDsee 2.5 on it.

I do not know if this works, but it is worth a try.

There is a program called WINE that runs on both Linux and Mac, this is a compability layer, allowing you to run native windows programs on both linux and mac. But not all programs runs on wine, you would just have to try for your self....

To install WINE on MAC : http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX/Installing

For Linpus : Press Alt+F2 and bring up the terminal, then write :
      Code:
      sudo yum install wine

Actually, I sent them an e-mail and asked them why they don't make this excellent program available also to us MAC users, and apparently, they chose to listen to me!

                Release Notes

Welcome to ACDSee Pro for Mac beta. This document contains the release notes for beta version 1.0.0. The following sections describe the beta release in detail and provide late-breaking or other information.

This is an early release for wide evaluation and usage. Keep in mind that we are continuing to work on ACDSee Pro for Mac and things may change in the future.

Your feedback is invaluable to making ACDSee Pro for Mac even more adaptable to your specific workflow needs. For up-to-date information please visit:

                http://www.acdsee.com/proformac
                IMPORTANT NOTES, PLEASE READ

The beta is intended to be used for testing and feedback purposes.

                * We recommend using test images only as you try ACDSee Pro. This is a very early ‘beta’ quality build and you should always work on duplicates of files that are securely backed up.
                * The image management settings you select will not be transferable, as this beta version may not be fully compatible with subsequent versions of ACDSee.
                * The ACDSee Pro database will not be migrated to the final released version of ACDSee Pro for Mac.
                * Metadata associated with the original file may not carry over to the subsequent file saved from Pro for Mac.
                * Help documentation is not available for the beta.
                * Customer and technical support is not available to users during the beta. Please report any issues encountered on the product forums (http://community.acdsee.com/forums). See Other Resources below.
                * Additional known issues are listed below.

                Beta Period

ACDSee Pro for Mac beta will install and launch for an extended beta period. This beta will expire on February 19, 2010. Please provide feedback through the forums at http://community.acdsee.com/forums.

The BETA version is still in testing, with no word on when a full release is expected.

But its promising to become an awesome packed program once released.

It's very much like the Win version of ACDSee 12, it's a top program that deserves 10/10.
I would guess that it's capabilities are identical, and your gonna love this Jan-Olav. I know I do!!

I've had ACDSee for as long as I can remember on PC's... I guess that is why I'm so exiting with this new development for MAC's as well...

I'm just waiting for them to come out with the "real" version, not the BETA testing versions.
