MAC versus WINDOWS : Which one do you prefer?

MAC versus WINDOWS : Which one do you prefer?

Being a new found MAC fan, I love all things MAC... even though I still have tons to learn on using it to it's full capacity.

This thread is dedicated to discuss and talk about the differences between the two and why one is better than the other.

It's a spin off from an old thread at our former board: MAC or PC? What are your feelings?

Another interesting thread is also found here: MAC: No room for complacency ...

I open the continuation-thread here with a small joke:

    Buy a Mac

I was just having a conversation with someone who is about to buy a Mac.

I was against it and an argument started.

I said there were too few people supporting the Mac.

He responded, "When was the last time you heard of a virus on a Mac?"

And I said "See, even people who write viruses don't support Macs."

I was intending making this a much more serious thread about MAC's vs Windows computers, but as the avid MAC-fan I have become, I could not resist placing this Windows case in any other place... forgive me...

OK, since I haven't heard anybody complain (yet), so here is another go at Microsoft: after that, I hope we can try starting and continuing a much more serious discussion on the differences, good and bad, between Windows and MAC.

(PS: This is a 1,5Mb GIF image: may take time to load fully).

OK... I have a serious question for those in the know....

I got myself a very nice Christmas gift about 2 months ago: a nice white headset with microphone for use on SKYPE. I have tried it at my Sony Vaio laptop (Vista) and it works perfectly, however, on the iMAC only the headset works.

There are two plugs: one for the earphones and one for the microphone. I plug the headset (earphones) into the appropriate 'hole' but there is no such for the microphone-jack.

I go to the mac.com website to see what I'm doing wrong and they say that - and this is where I get lost - "the external microphone should be connected at the LINE IN"....

What in the wide world does that mean?

Really weird--and I don't have a MAC answer--but I have the same problem with my headset/microphone on my VISTA desktop. Even plugged into the microphone port, the microphone doesn't work...which is why I use skype on the laptop..and the headset works fine...... really must get this all sorted out....

I'm not sure of the Mic-jack question, but I can tell you which I prefer of Mac & PC.
If Macs had the same wide range software ability that a PC has, I would have a Mac right now and throw my Microcrap PC in the bin. For me Macs are great for graphical work!! Though at moment I am condemed to a PC with XP Pro on it, simply because it supports more software and parts are cheaper.

That is a very valid and appreciated point of view.

I have fallen in love with my iMAC mostly because it has a very clean design, is super fast and relatively simple to use. What I do not like is the very high price of it's programs and the fact that here in Norway, MAC is quite un-common.

Windows does indeed have a large monopoly here in the country, and I guess that is the reason I like to go with MAC.

My last Mac was a Quadra 610 (aka: pizza box). The Internet was young. My local Internet provider had only one phone line able to talk to Macs for the whole town. My first wife got that computer in the divorce.

After we split I could not afford the premium price of Mac so I switched back to PC. My current computer is smok'n fast and powerfull. If only those crazy Vista things would stop happening. Why does Internet Explorer stop working and require a full shutdown/restart to correct the problem? Why does the taskbar forget to auto hide? Why did Lightroom lock-up after an hours use... oh wait, that might be Adobe's fault...

The line in should be marked with a circle with two triangles pointed inward.

But as far as i understand, the iMac does not directly support a microphone plugged in here, you need something called a pre-amp in between.

                    Refer to this thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=243763

No, just a basic pre-amp. They cost bugger-all from your local electronics store. Just ask for something that will boost mic-level to line-level.

You could also get a Griffin iMic that does the same thing over USB.

Hope this helps, I'm quite green myself when it comes to Mac

Cool... I will go looking for one next round at the electronics store!

Seems like the MICROSOFT coporation is inventing some pretty hefty Star Wars-looking stuff these days...

Check out these two videos, and especially the second one.... I don't see the need for it though, but I bet it'll be awesome to have when it comes to stores.
