With gales, rain and low temperatures forecast, we're ready to leave home to join Boudicca in Portsmouth when the weather dictates. Our house-sitters are arriving to enjoy a 6-week diving holiday

I'm looking forward to catching up with some CVF folks around the coast and we're also hoping to meet up with some Scottish friends in Alta and Ålesund (with some interesting photographs ) I won't have access to CVF as we travel so will have to wait until our return home before posting photographs here. We will try to put some small photographs on the blog as we sail

As I think that most of you have heard, Discovery's cruise was cancelled. It was such a shame, the crew worked so hard to try and make it possible.

Boudicca's cruise was calm/dry with lots of Northern Lights, commentary from the Captain as he thoroughly enjoyed sharing his home country with passengers and some extra sightseeing that you normally only associate with Hurtigruten. Unfortunately, although we saw Sarnia in Tromsø, I could only wave from the ship.

Lots of editing to do on photos and video then I'll post them here.

I thought I'd start by posting the video clips from our cruise on Boudicca.

Our first port of call, Molde where we took a very interesting excursion to Bergtatt Grotto

Next was Tromsø (2 nights) where Boudicca took part in a major emergency exercise.

and Alta for a 2 night stay

Southbound, and with such beautiful calm weather, we viewed Trollfjord, Raftsundet and Svolvær with a very enthusiastic Captain giving his commentary

before arriving at Kristiansund where we met many friends even though it was not planned

and our last port of call was Bergen in brilliant sunshine, and again, we met friends, this time people we know through CVF

We set sail from Portsmouth on the south coast of England just as darkness fell. It was calm on the North Sea during our 2-day crossing on Fred Olsen's <<MS Boudicca>>

Molde was our first destination, the <<City of Roses>> but perhaps not in February? We'll see the flowers when we return later in the year. It was still dark when we arrived, there was plenty of time to have breakfast before going ashore.

We chose a new excursion, a visit to Bergtatt Grotto, sailing with a difference- on a barge in this colourful cave.

First, we had a safety briefing in the hall and were given hard-hats to wear in the cave

and on the barge inside the cave

We had a morning date with a helicopter as we approached Tromsø. We were taking part in a 2-day exercise with the emergency services in Tromsø and the helicopter dropped fire fighters on to Boudicca's decks.

After the helicopter had left, we sailed into Tromsø, past Polaria

                          and Vengsøy

before going to seek our MB Havcruise and check on arrangements for our northern lights dinner cruise.

and shortly afterwards, Vesterålen made her northbound call, we visit the ship.

It was Valentines Day on Boudicca

and next day, the emergency exercise continued with the fire-boat,

ambulances and fire engines from the city (oh, and the returning excursion bus)

I'd never visited Polaria so we decided to visit
