In contrast to the lily pictures these crocosmia leaves enchant me in a different way, subtle and appealing:

          Back-tracking a little - I forgot this one:

          8 July 2014

This is a day lily a friend gave me a few years back. In its second year of flowering, it is an unusual blend of soft apricot and cream shades with very crinkly edges to the petals.

Butterflies seem to have suffered from the recent deluges we have been having here, although there are a few about. But it is obviously hoverfly season - they are out in force!

Strange flower, the tradescantia. The leaves are at all angles, and their bright, light green against the rich blue of the flower is quite striking.

The seedheads of the macropetala clematis spread across the plant remain attractive for quite a while - given reasonable weather! Sorry though I am to see the flowers fade in spring I know there are these feathery balls to look forwared to.

colorfull plants you have Ivy,the purple one where the hoverflies are dooing a chair dance.
not to mention the weird names of them.
didn't have the moth, but this afternoon 2 white butterflies who are mating ,offer them a room in Hotel Woudrichem, but they didn't take my offer

Those purple flowers are selfseeded poppies, Thijs and have been around for some years now. I have never planted them so presumably they came from someone else's garden. Hoverflies just love them, they congregate inside the blooms every year. And there's a strange thing about the blooms, some are just single, with one row of petals forming the cup-shape, while others have a full or part ring of small, paler twisted petals inside. So I think that maybe the cultivated variety which I presume they originally came from was a full double one and they are gradually reverting to the single type. They are pretty, though. What's a chair dance, by the way?
Tradescantia does sound weird, but they are named after two British naturalists.

I am jealous of your lily photo six days ago. The deer love them. During wet seasons we can grow them but this year has been very dry so any plants I water get eaten.

Always having 1 person more that chairs, let the musik playand let them walk around the chair circle, and when it stops, you have to sit down.
                      last man standing is out.
then remove 1 chair ,and let the musik play, and they have to walk again, etcetcetc
until there is 1 chair and 2 persons to walk, until the musik stops.
the sitting person is the winner.

Just look at this beauty - a male banded demoiselle perched most obligingly on the wild fern. I have found that provided you approach slowly and make no violent movement, dragonflies remain unperturbed at your presence. I took several shots and then - holding my breath - very slowly moved a frond out of the way before trying for another photo. It didn't budge.

We scared the wits out of them!
But that demoiselle is a beauty, isn't it! It's a "he", by the way, as the female is very dull looking. Like most creatures the males have to look good to get any of the females to even glance at them! Pea****s, all of them!
