Todays extra is for the train aficionados:

NSB is brushing up their EL 18 electric locomotives with new decoration. Originally they where red and black.

Last summer NSB made a test decoration; red nose, light grey body with to red stripes.

And on the other side, a landscape picture.

But I think this was considered going to far. The re-decorated locomotives I have seen this fall are painted light grey, black nose and with two dark grey/black stripes.

The 22 El 18 locomotives built by Adtranz entered service from 1996 and onward. The locomotives are numbered 18.2241 to 18.2262.
    Regards; Sigve.

Grey trains seem to be a trend. They don't look too dirty.

  • Oh..... never knew about the re-coloring of the NSB locomotives.... In this matter, I think I'm a bit old-fashioned, because I tend to prefer the old all-red style.

      • Cool viewpoint in the first image of previous post - it looks almost like a tiny bathtub with propeller.

Since 2006 (maybe even longer) there exists plans and drawings for a new Gann, a new training ship instead of the old Gann/Ragnvald Jarl (now Sjøkurs). But then suddenly appeared Narvik, the present Gann, out of the blue sky. So the fate of these plans is uncertain. The plans and drawings are no longer to be seen on Gann’s webpages.

(Do I see a Hurtigruten wannabe?)

            • Such a lot of interesting additions. I am with Pakarang regarding the train design. I like the old style. The red is a typical Skandinavian colour and fits perfect in the landscape.
Generally i don't like the new style to paint trains like advertising walls.

The Costa Voyager is now sold to China. A fast, but apparently not very seaworthy ship...

The Gann projects looks indeed like a HRG wannabe. But in my opinion the present ex-Narvik will serve for many more years.

                    Today calls for an X-tra!

This morning, I took a look at the cruise list for Flåm 2015. And there I came to see that Nordstjernen, good old Nordstjernen, will visit Flåm Tuesday June 2, from 08-12 hours. After that (although the list says nothing about it) I think she will have a pass at Nærøyfjorden and Gudvangen. This will be my Flåm and Gudvangen Day!

The picture: Nordstjernen in Herøystraumen, seen from Herøybrua, Møre og Romsdal, April 2002. (Nikon - Fuji Velvia film)

PS: For our Funchal friends, she will call at Flåm Monday June 22, Tuesday June 30 and Saturday July 25.
                    Regards; Sigve.
