I guess this is a part of the reason behind my fascination around abandoned buildings. That and the fact that they were also once brand new!

    Puts things into proper perspective.

    • That's why I love living in old houses!!! I love thinking of the people who have been here before me...and hearing stories of them....

      • St John The Devine Church of Gainsborough. It's been abandoned for 5 years, the inside has been totally emptied. Strangley no one knows where the set of ceremonial candleabra's valued at over £140,000 ($229,452) went missing to.
Even the church bell has been removed.

Infamy, Infamy.... They've got it in for me! Said The Laughing Assassin.

Isn't that typical....? It has happened before, it will happen again... when places close, things have a magical way of disappearing right in front of our noses.

          • Yep! Your very right Jan-Olav, everything changes, and for me not for all the right reasons.
The sad part of this for me is that this is where life for me began, I was christened in St John's. It was finished in 1882 and closed in 2004, it could seat 800. It's future as a building even, is uncertain.

            • This building the Friendship Hotel Pub, has been abandoned for a few years now. It was my old local pub for many years along with the craziest landlord (completely nuts) whoever lived.

First of all...., I think J-O is a pro when coming to photography!

Then, I see before me that small house as a small base for me and my floatplane (oh, could I ever have one)...

                              • Well, let's see now... is it on a lake or fjord? It looks pretty calm. But if that's not a problem, we could clear a bit and make a compound like the Kennedys have on Cape Cod...a little place for you and the plane, a little place for me with a garden and a deck... Jan-Olav's would need a place to handcuff Lookchin and hold all of his massive computer stuff....hmmm. Anyone else??? We could all share satellite services for the internet....hide the dish up in the trees.....and the hillside would be perfect for a deck and a hottub........a little terracing....
