A little bit "silly" but still also interesting... so, who won the battle... Nikon or Canon?

What about that GoPro mounted on top of the EOS5D MarkII?

I haven't looked into the links nor videos in this thread...., yet...., but Thursday I ran into my camera salesman when I was in the city, and he told me Canon (in his shop) was in decline, Nikon had an arrow pointing upward (he sold two Nikon DSLRs a day! ), and he was surpriced at how little (to nothing) Pentax adverticed these days.

Especially with the new Nikon model being launched just now, they are bound to make a leap.

But, as you say, Nikon is also so much better at advertising (as opposed to Canon).

Pentax.... I don't think I have seen any advertisements at all, without having to look for it myself off course.

Despite Nikon being increasingly popular, the most amateurs I see (hang with) has a Canon. In Thailand, Canon has a strong hold, and in Bangkok Post today, Canon affirms it's commitment to the Thai market.

Re: Canon versus Nikon: the eternal battle

The market shares goes back and forth between the different brands.
Canon was really superior, especially within DSLR's, when digital cameras took over the market. Now Nikon have won back much and seems to able to deliver features that customers want while Canon are finding excuses for not leading the development.
Here in Sweden Nikon have also done very aggressive campaigns, for a year ago it was almost difficult to find a Canon DSLR at big electronics chains like Elkjöp and Expert, just Nikon everywhere. I think Sony are also having great features and gaining market shares.
Talking about Canon, I think they probably still have the best lens line-up available, and that's pretty important.

Re: Canon versus Nikon: the eternal battle

Typical of me to go OT, but I remember a "battle" from when I was a little boy (late 60s early 70s) between AGFA and Kodak.
Don't know what happened to AGFA, but I just read in the swedish magazine Fotosidan that Kodak is about to go bankrupt....

                  EDIT:
Looked into the vimeo-battle-video just now...., and what can a 47 year old guy say?
Hadn't I gotten my first camera yet, I would definitely go out in the market to really find another brand than both Canon and Nikon, as a revenge for putting something so irritating on air....
(Even if this is not either companies responsibility)

Mmmm.... how to say this in the kindest possible way?

When Nikon recently launched their brand new D800 camera body, they didn't only steal images without a permission, but also from a NOrwegian photographer which is an AVID CANON fan (naturally, using only Canon equipment...). This must be one of the most embarrassing product launches ever.... first stealing copyrighted material without as much as asking, then, using images taken with a top-of-the-line camera from their COMPETITOR.... couldn't have been any more embarrassing, I think.....
