Interesting. Funny how the photographic world seems to rotate around Photokina in Cologne every year - as Bengt and I were discussing elsewhere, the new full frame Nikon was announced for the show too.
    Cheers,

    Mark.

Finding the correct timing to introduce a new product seems to be more important than ever. It's however quite interesting that the "original" 7D actually survived 5 years on the market, that's a long product cycle for electronics.

    New Canon 5Ds and 5Ds r:

Strange they sent the 5D up into the 50MP range while their top model still rests at 18MP.

From an Asian paper---- I checked out the sample images from Canon for this model, and the sample videos... they are amazing to say the least.

        This is Canons answer to Nikon D 800 and D 800 E.

OK.... I was wondering about that.

Sigve, forgive me for not remembering, but are you using Canon too?

If you do, what do YOU think about this latest model.... ?

I think they are making way too many similar models and I had hoped for a new top-model instead of a new 5D, which by the way, is said to be a SUPPLEMENT (not a replacement) to the current line up of 5D Mark3.

Yes, I use Canon. EOS 5D mk III and EOS 6D.
Sure the new ones are good news. But personally, I dont really know what to mean about the pixel race. But I know that the camera bodies are expensive. And if you do not have highprice lenses, you will not could take advantage of the high pixel number.
To me, the most exciting Canon camera at the moment is the EOS 7D mk II (I think Tommi is using this) with a cropped sensor, but with many features from the pro EOS 1DX. This has made a very high score at the Digital Camera Review, and this would be my first choice if I should add another Canon body.

Yes, I also have a 7DmkII nowadays. Compared to the "mkI" it's the dullest new thing I've ever bought. BUT, it's a slow evolving thing: everything is slightly better, picture quality is definitely nicer, exposure is more faithfull, AF has received a nice upgrade (much more consistent than the old 19-point).

The new "fives" are adding some nice things and are probably very nice for those who really needs the extra pixels (very few photographers do). I would guess that Canon will further develop the mkIII to a full frame reportage/action-camera, boosting the framerate rather than the resolution.

Everyone seems however still believe that Sony's sensors (used in many Nikon cameras) are still one leap better than Canons latest creations.

There is something fascinating about +50mpix.

            Interesting discussion.

But after all, I have to admit that I feel slightly disappointed with Canon and their most recent releases. Nothing really revolutionary, and leaps BEHIND Nikon in many ways.

And the worst thing right now is, that last years DSLR camera sales dropped a staggering 36% when compared to the previous year.

Sony has made huge leaps forward but Canon seem intended at releasing a myriad of almost similar models. To me, it seems like the models are given numbers at random with no sensible reasoning or common sense behind. Off course, I may be wrong. Nevertheless, Canon's top model still only boasts with 18MP. Nothing revolutionary.

I was "testing out" a lot of different equipment at the Stockholm photofair in november. I must say that Canon gave me the feeling of being the most conservative camera brand of them all. A slow evolution instead of a revolution. Nothing wrong with that, great performing tools for professionals and others in a format that you instantly recognize. But there's definitely some great features cooking in the lineups of the other brands. If Samsung, Pentax, Panasonic and Olympus (and partly Sony) continues to evolve at the current rate, then we might have some really great cameras within 2-3 generations. Nikon is much like Canon, but a bit more 'up to date'.

Interesting story about a Canon left in the Amazon jungle to capture amazing animals, but proving to be the perfect habitat of another type of animal:

I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed on this latest release, but I may be wrong off course. I had expected a whole lot more MegaPixels, but then again, it's not all about having the most MP anyway.

If you are looking for megapixels, go for the 5DS R with 50,6 MP.
