Be happy, the numbers are still black. It's worse when they get red

Friday 13 of February will be a special day for UNIX users.

The UNIX-time will at 23:31:30 GMT pass 1234567890 seconds elapsed since midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) of January 1, 1970.

It is widely used not only on Unix-like operating systems but also in many other computing systems.

        See clock here:
        Countdown (actually up) clock

BTW: Unix time passed 1,000,000,000 seconds in 2001-09-09T01:46:40 GMT.

          250 !!
Thats the speed of my broadband connection at the moment, 250 kbps. Very slow you might think, but it's the fastest I have seen it for months! A full 100 kpbs faster than normal. Still, if I choose to live in the middle of nowhere I guess I should not complain.

Yes I remember that very well. The biggest "legal" swindle before the present finance crisis.

I had an old 286 mHz "home made" computer at that time. It had a battery to keep the time rolling when not turned on. I took out the battery a few months before 31.12.1999 and the clock never got to 00:01 - 01.01.00. No problem.

The method would never have been certified "Y2K Compliant", or whatever the term was, by the highly paid "expert" that went around to certify all computer used on offshore rigs etc. (Some of them young "kids" with a back ground of games and hacking)

Absolutely.. the Y2K was probably one of the best organized swindles of all human time.....

I remember, I was on Crystal Symphony far out in an ocean, and we had to have double watches on the bridge for the midnight passing... fearing that the ship would completely shut down...

Midnight came, and nothing happened... apart from a bunch of very tired and overworked officers on a dark bridge in the big ocean....
