  • If you though that the election campaign was akin to a "three ring circus", they have just added a ring or two for the transition: http://edition.cnn.com/2016/11/28/po...ney/index.html

Who actually won this thing anyhow:http://edition.cnn.com/2016/11/27/po...ote/index.html

How many rings there will be after 20. Jan. 2017 is everybody's guess.

      • Damnit! Being an American on and traveling at this time is difficult. On the cruise most non-American would get around to asking us the difficult question... the election. Everyone was pretty cool and could discuss politics intelligently but on the last night we did a fancy chef's tasting dinner (with wine pairing) so there was a small group of us in close proximity and liquored up for 3 hours. Sure enough there was a couple from Texas and they were full blown, glass eyed Trump lovers. I and others politely brought up other topics to keep the discussion civil. No, these people were like missionaries. No discussion, no reasoning, no debate. I don't care if someone has differing opinions or beliefs but by god speak intelligently and like an intelligent adult. It was so, so bad... It got so bad I thought it was funny. My wife on the other hand had to politely leave the table a couple times so she wouldn't fling her expensive wine on someone.

Many years ago I was sitting in the Coffeeshop at The Mandarin in Hong Kong nursing a bad hangover and trying to get some brunch to stay down.
An American couple was sitting a bit away from me talking excitedly but not too loudly, when another couple came in and took a table on my other side.
It didn't take long before they spotted each other and started an animated discussion about the merits of the places in Asia they had visited on their 10-day Asian roundtrip.
They then found out that both came from somewhere in Upper New York State, which resulted in the decibels increasing to unbearable levels.
I eventually called the Waitress over and asked fairly loudly; "could I have a table a little further from New York, please".

Possibly, but cannot think of a country with a reasonably stable government where it would happen.

Look on the bright side. Soon Trump will be our President and make everything better because he is great and has a plan.

Me, I'm digging a big hole in the back yard and building a shelter and filling it with canned peaches. There must be hell to pay for this madness.

              ---
As for the guns it's totally shocking to me. Almost all funding for mental health has been cut and we make guns readily available and cheap. Then everyone is shocked at yet another massacre when many people are killed by someone who needed help, imprisonment or something. I just don't get it. At this point we have so many guns in the public that regulating the guns is not much an option. It would take decades to bring them under control with stringent laws so I feel we must focus on the people. Why are these young men taking a gun and killing innocent people? I have to think that mental health service has to be less expensive than all the funerals and security screenings and certainly worth a try.

          • I hear that President Trump has asked the Secret Service to chase away birds from the White House grounds.

Well at least they are working hard to see if they can get rid of restrictions on corruption and reduce or eliminate any other rule they don't like, like anything to do with gun control: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-us...KBN1592AT?il=0

Maybe it's time to drop all the anti Trump stuff. He is the leader of the US Government and should be given the same professional respect that any other world leader deserves whether or not you agree with them.

I don't understand why so many people are surprised or shocked by any of Trumps actions? He is doing what he said he would do, and what he said he would do is what got him elected. And it is my opinion that only those who did vote have the right to complain one way or another.

Lastly, yes Dane it is a dangerous time and hopefully this President can finally settle things down.

Every other President even though they may not be my party and I may not like their policies I respected the work they did for my country. President Trump strikes me as a man who has a job for which he is not prepared. I sincerely hope he comes up to speed but I feel we have elected a plumber to do electrical work or more accurately a reality TV personality to be a politician.

          • To push Sweden into discredit by using "alternative facts" like the mentioned "incident" reported on Fox-news by a politically clear positioned film maker Ami Horowitz is something i am shocked of, i must say. To invent and design fears is a very dangerous method of manipulating people and opinions. We had very bad experiences with such strategies in the past and that is the reason, why we should not accept this.

Ralf, it has been stated that Trump is more of a dictator than a president, which does not auger well for the country as you would be aware of very well. Then there is the report that he is no gentleman in public with regards to his wife. He tends to display delusions of grandeur with no regard to the USA's current status. His dislike of science is scary for the USA which has many institutions of high ranking. The future is in the realms of fancy as far as he is concerned......

We all see that. And we should all see, that his behavior is dangerous. Nor his speech about Sweden was based on facts, neither the report on Fox News. Excuses are coming late (if at all) ond very silent. But the world did listen to the first message and many of the people are believing his words. That is the way to create "alternative facts". Very scary.

          • I think/hope America is slowly awakening to what Trump truly is. He is our Commander and Chief and he does have some good ideas but to come out immediately discrediting the most prestigious new organizations and simply throwing the words "false news" to anything he does not like is quite shocking. His pole numbers have been dropping dramatically since he came into office, protests against his policies continue and grow stronger and the courts are providing a check as intended by our constitution. So, I hope in the long run that the good will of our nation will win out.

One extreme here in the US is hard enough to swallow. Add on the UK's impending exit from the EU and changing politics in France and Germany have me very concerned.

Remarc, we must distinguish between the position itself and the person holding it. The actual post of President of a country requires respect per se, but the incumbent of such a post at any one time has to earn respect.

Very true words! I am sure we all will appreciate, if he will stop being offended all the time and will start the earning- respect-process. At this time he is the top-topic in each political and cutural talk show, All cabaret artists are getting huge applause as soon as they are joking about him.
And this is not only - although of course intended so - funny. In summary it has an influence on the reputation of the post. And all these people have been there before he started the job - and they never had a reason to make such jokes. So he should not blame them for that, but ask himself, why they do it now!
