    This is Germany / Mödlareuth

Since the Rennsteig thread and the German/German border found some interest, i will show you some pictures of the Border Museum in Mödlareuth:

This little village (50 inhabitants) was called "Little Berlin" because the border divided the village in two parts and the GDR government built a wall like in Berlin.
They left some meters for the Museum.

Typical tower to watch the border line (GDR)

Inside such a tower (not really fitting in the lighthouse thread...)

Thousands of border soldiers were watching, photographing and filming each other, each person, dog and cat, which was moving near the border line:

...but from time to time, someone was successful and could escape.

in this case, the GDR court prooved, that the border soldier would have had about 40 seconds to shoot. He did not and was punished. Many other people died.

Today you can go to the Museum, take a seat there and do a big "poop" on this

Thank you so very much for this post Ralf.

Loved seeing those great images and learning a bit more about another place which I have never been to, and never known about. Once again, thank you so much.
With best regards from Jan-Olav Storli
