        Oh, oh, oh.......I'm homesick!
My goodness, you have some beautiful pictures there, Thijs. Do you know, that pale winter sunlight with its soft shadows makes very appealing, atmospheric images. Must have another session tomorrow.

It was the best weather you could wish for.
Except when you wanted the make photo's.
The sun was very hard that day. No clouds, not even a single small one.

Ah, but the sun in winter is much lower in the sky throughout the whole day, with its light being much more horizontal compared to the overhead beams of summer. To human eyes it may be brilliant, but not to the camera. It can be compared to the quality of light during a single day, with the hard midday light giving everything a sharp edge, including shadows when there are any. but early morning or evening time giving much better images. It depends on what you are photographing, of course, and what effect you want.
Look at #512.2 The clear blue of the foreground sky fades into the haze in the distance which, while not being exactly clouds, is still caused by moisture. Together with the bare trees it forms a nice separation between the sky and the richer blue of the water.
And look at the shadows. The broad one on the foreground tarmac has no hard edges, but a soft blending into the path surface. And you needn't say that that is because the path surface is rough! Just examine the little shadows on the painted fence. They too have soft edges.
That's why i said that this set of photos have atmosphere. They invite you in.

not a new high water periode.
this was of a week later when the water had it's highest point.

the water was lowered the next weekend, about a 40 cm

the line of the dirt masks the waterlevel at it's highest point.
not even worth to mention it, of building the dam in the gate.

but high enough to build a bridge for reaching the ferry
