Somehow we missed to take a picture of the former castle now abbey, so you should have a look here:

    https://www.kylemoreabbey.com/wp-con...topbanner1.jpg

But we were inside. A small part is a museum and showing the original purpose, the other areas are now abbey and closed to the public.

A few meters down the lake shore you can find a mini-cathedral, which was built by the first owner. Impressing for a private chapel...

The Irish roads are quity bumpy, may this is a reason, why you don't see classic cars very often. But one of the visitors drove a perfect looking Triumph TR3!!

I can't remenber, where we spent the next night, but i will think about it. Have to sort out the pictures. To be continued...

Nice trip report from a different place in the world - a bit out of the average tourist-tracks. Some of these villages is like travelling back in time - perfect for photo-walks I would think.

I really liked the desk in the window in the first photo of post #60 - kind of cozy!

Like your report, specially from the small town streets with colorful houses, and of course the small and cozy pubs.
Have no special comment to any particular photo, just want you to know I'm looking in every now and then

Thank you both for your friendly comments. I am trying to continue and finish this report as quick as possible. Some things are hard to remember after such a long time inbetween.

I found a whole bunch of pictures i was missing. So earlier yesterday we passed a nice village and this nice scenery made us stop for a short walk.
This was even before Galway, the village is called Kinvara. Nearby is a small castle, Dunguaire Castle.

Foto 16.05.17, 12 56 35 by Ralf Plinta, auf Flickr

Near the campsite of yesterday was an old graveyard. The people have to be inventive, to protect all against the strong wind.

Foto 16.05.17, 19 35 26 by Ralf Plinta, auf Flickr

In the morning of today we did a short side trip to Omey Island. At low tide you can reach the island over the beach, You have to follow the blue signs then. Of course there are horses in Connemara.

Foto 17.05.17, 14 46 56 by Ralf Plinta, auf Flickr

Once a year a famous horserace is happening at this place. They have hours to build up the whole scenery, do the race and remove all again, before the water is coming back.

And here is our campsite for this night, Renvyle Beach. Here we experienced that you can have all kind of weather in Ireland within one hour.

Of course our pitch had sea view.

Soon as we continued our trip the next morning, we reached the next nice viewpoint, Roonagh Pier. Here a ferry is serving the connection to Clare Island.

Then we continued to Westport, where our guide book announced the next Manor House we wanted to visit: Westport House.

An impressing building, private owned by a family.

To cover the costs to keep this huge building in shape, the family decided to host tourists so nearly fifty years ago they opened a campsite. Later they offered horse holidays, horse drawn caravans and today they have a complete funpark, which still was closed at pre season. But you could imagine, which fairyground this will be during summer.

The house was open and a crude mixture: Partly it is a museum, as can bee seen in the library...

...or in the staircase, which is so pink because of the colored Italian glass roof. Taste is something you can't argue about. Have a look at the flag, which has for sure seen better days before!

In the basement it is more the spooky part of the amusement park, of course with the pirate queen of Clare Island.

Funny, but in a sympathic way. We liked this place and had a pleasant visit.

And we included a short walk through the park.

Back on track again. Next viewpoint was An Chéibh Bheag (Cloghmore Pier) with the tower of kildavnet and the lifeboat.

The rest of the day was pure Wild Atlantic Way with spectacular views from a rocky coastline. This is Achill Island.

Almost alone and down in the bay there was no wind anymore...

2017-05-18 17.38.55 by Ralf Plinta, auf Flickr

...the beach was sandy and the campsite with hot showers not far away...

...so Regine decided to have a bath in the Irish Sea at the 18th of May! A local told later, he tried it two weeks before and in his opinion it is still a bit cold.

                          An absolutely wonderful vacation indeed.

Great seeing the "inside" of a true castle, and learning how they try making an income for the upkeep. A building like this and at this size, does need a lot of maintenance and care - and it ain't cheap.

The landscapes are so beautiful.... absolutely stunning!

I have to add a place we passed the day before. Partly since we were looking out for a campsite and an announced one wasN't there, partly since we did not know some things we learned later we missed to take pictures of Irelands Fjord!
If we are one day in this area again, we have to spend a visit there:

Don't miss to watch the stunning video with that nice car! Thijs will also be happy!

The next day we continued our tour through the Mayo county. Can't remember this exact location. Let's call it just a find along the road.

2017-05-19 13.11.47 by Ralf Plinta, auf Flickr

A short side step announced again a beach and dune path to a small island. We had low tide, so we just did it.

This was Claggan Island and this guy was quite trustful, as more as we showed and gave him an apple.
