I wish I could elaborate on the symbolism and the stories being "told" here, but I cannot. Maybe somebody with more knowledge of Hinduism can elaborate??

Bali is such an amazing country, and one of my absolutely favorite destinations.

The people and their island is just mind-blowing, and a photographers paradise.

            Re: This is Indonesia

Last I checked Bali was still a province in Indonesia, with no plans of seeking statehood, or any independence movement, although the only majority Hindu province in Muslim majority Indonesia.
But you are right about the people, they are friendly, smiling and very helpful.

Here is bit more Balinese culture, Balinese dancing.
            First the orchestra:

Maybe you will recognize some of the figures from the temple in the costumes of the dancers performing the Mahabharata for the guests at the Tjampuhan Hotel in Ubud on X-mas eve a few years ago.

                But first the orchestra:

Your superb photos show us what must be the real Bali, Ombugge. The beautiful carvings in the latter pics. are so rich.

I wish I could elaborate on the symbolism and the stories being "told" here, but I cannot.
Yes, I wish you could, too. But careful study from all the available sources on the web would soon enlighten anyone. It's just finding the time!
A friend of mine has a son who took a degree in Chinese studies and then went to work in China in the travel business, organising trips for foreign tourists. He had occasional spells in Bali and my friend went out to stay with him and his Chinese wife. She loved her holidays there, and loved the people.
