Places to see before it's late.

I came across this article in Norwegian media recently... a list of places to see before it's too late.... here is a QUICK translation of the listed places:

    http://reise.adressa.no/reise/Her-er...nt--74815.html

    DeadSea....

Why: because the entire lake is disappearing.... in the last 85 years the amount of water has been reduced from 1050 km2 to 600km2: the supply river Jordan has dried up to become a stream, not any longer feeding the Dead Sea and the lake vaporizing faster and faster.

    Venezia...

Why: It's sinking and waters around are rising.

    Maldives....

Why: If the sea keeps on rising as fast as it does today, the whole island will be submerged by year 2100.

    Taj Mahal, India....

Why: The ever so rising visitor numbers, 3 to 4 million visitors each year, escalating air-pollution and poor workmanship in maintenance and repairs.... the sturdy building is in true danger of failing.

(PS: I wouldn't think asking people to visit this place before it's too late will help this problem in any way!).....

    Kilimanjaro, Tanzania...

Why: The snow is disappearing each year.... and soon, the top will not be blanketed with snow...

    Belize barrier reef....

Why: 40% of the total area of the reef has been damaged by tourism, violent weather and pollution....

(PS: ONCE AGAIN.... added tourism pressure will not help this problem!)

    Napoli, Italy...

Why: Volcano Vesuv might destroy the entire town if it wakes up to life...

    The Patagonian Glaciers...

Why: They are loosing 20 billion tons of glacial ice each year as the world is heating up....

    Madagascar...

Why: Many extremely rare animals live here, and they are under threat because of pollution and increased tourism and population....

(PS: ONCE AGAIN... increased tourism will NOT help here EITHER!!!!.....)
