  • This is Copenhagen

In this topic comes almost 150 images (of the 500) I took when visiting Copenhagen about 4 weeks ago. Due to work and other things, they will not be posted at once, but rather when I'm able to.
In example, work starts in four minutes so this is about what I can do for now.

Let me start with a decoration in the hotel lobby (SP34 hotel in Sankt Petersgate 34)

First walk from the hotel towards Strøget, Nyhavn and more (This is Sankt Petersgate)

Copenhagen, city of many different bikes

    Just another shop

A shop selling boots (Ensrettet = One Way)

    Kongens Ny-torg (The New Square)

I like the way that people leave bikes along the street and nobody steals them. In Australia and some other countries, they'd disappear fairly quickly.

Agree there Nari. I enjoyed Copenhagen alot, both place and people :-)

Caritas Springwater (fountain) at Gammeltorvet (Old Square)

    A kiosk at Nytorget

They decorate walls put up around construction sites in Copenhagen. In Norway we put up high cold gray steel fences, covered in plastic...., blowing away in the wind

    From the same wall

This is also from that construction site wall

And finally, also this one :-)

Don't know if I'm completely satisfied, but this is considered to be my first semi-serious 'street photography' picture

Then we are down in Nyhavn, a fantastic area. This is old former lighthouse ship nr. 7. Dull name though...

Nyhavn as we all know it

      A VW Beetle cabriolet.

A small detail from the Theatreship (Teaterskibet)

      A door in the area

Nyhavn was like a postcard that weekend

We also took the sightseeing on water. Pictures later...

What a great place for photography this is

Don't know who, but in several lampposts were birdcages (is that a word?) :-D

Then we have bikes again, and colourful ones. Never seen nothing like it.

The Palads. A movie theatre maybe?

          Detail from the Palads roof

          In short...., a building :-)

TIVOLI. Closed until 10th October, so we were 14 days early :-(

As we walked along from the TIVOLI, I spotted a small sign on a lamppost on the pavement

Then a small "study" of "a building". Can't say I remember what was inside...

            A special treat for Jan-Olav ;-)

            Copenhagen City Hall

Scandic Hotel. Did you know this is partially designed/drawn/architectured by Mr. Glosimodt, the very same architecht who drew the station buildings of Drivstua, Kongsvoll, Hjerkin, Vålåsjø and Fokstua stations along Dovrebanen? He was an assistent to the main architect of then Palace Hotel Copenhagen :-) (Just 'fun fact', so disregard if you're not interested)

            Refreshment in Strøget

As we waited to cross the street, there came a strange car. It's a Volvo (I checked the lisenceplates ;-))

On our way to Rundetårn, the Round Tower. This is an old observatory of planets and stars.

The story say that Alexander the Great rode his horse up to the top here. Think I remember the name correct, don't want to mix names with wrong years :-)
There are 7 such turns around the center of the tower before coming to the top

              Detail of the way up

On the top, before entering the panorama gangway, a place to sit down and enjoy the view and get the breath back. (Nope, did not try)

The Volvo is the recently introduced XC90.

The last passage to the panorama gangway was by stairs

Then, on top and a beautiful view

The center of the tower, from top to bottom. Scary...

                NICE!

I love Copenhagen! It's such a fantastic city and place - and it seems to never stop fascinating me. A lot of art, as can be seen in the above images!

The hotels here are also a very nice collection - all those that I have stayed in, have been exceptional in their own way.

Additionally, Nyhavn is one of the places where I have had one of the best Lobsters I have tasted on shore (not on a Crystal cruiseship).

So cool you got the "spy-shot" of a new secret Volvo.... you should sell that picture to the Norwegian car magazine!

Thanks for the special treat - My Pride - My Thai!
With best regards from Jan-Olav Storli

Nydelig! Really nice pictures from a cool city.
The "semi-street-photograph" made me smile. I almost get the feeling that you used the painting as an excuse to take a picture where a other human also appeared. No need to do that, just be cool and shoot.
Remember to choose your subject: Street-photography or Photography of streets!

                    Thanks!
I saw that woman walking in from the right, and I lifted my camera to wait until her passed that wall painting. Just because I saw a certain likeness between the painting and her jacket. If this is street photography, or photografy of street..., I don't know. I belive you might be correct when you also suggest the latter :-) That is because when in street photography, one often face the subject with a 35mm or less lense, and that is not the case here.

Out again from the Round Tower

We walked on to another town square, and on our way we passed a H&M shop

Yes, I asked the man if I could take pictures of his stand

Then we just walked the streets

Diverted from my team when I saw these colours. And as I discovered after loading the picture into my pc; do you spot the heart? :-)

Down by Nyhavn again, this time to embark on a charterboat to see Copenhagen from the waterside, and to visit the little mermaid

HMQ Margrethe was home, but strongly guarded (Pssst; my travelling team can be seen standing there to the right ;-) )

I was moveing around taking pictures, and I watched his eyes as they were locked on me like a target :-)
