        Ivy,I have no idea if it's a Leon Leyritz's statue.I don't think so but I'm not sure.
Anyway I must tell you it's not a memorial for African troops though there is a link with Africa.
And you are right:the soldier is a black man.

I tried for the American Expeditionary Force in WW1 where African Americans were involved. But then I read that they were issued with American uniforms and French helmets. Subsequent to my (enforced) studies on French WW1 uniform I think the uniform in the statue is the horizon blue version issued in, I think, 1915. So that doesn't seem to fit.
Brain hurts. I'm going out to commune with my flowers.

Good idea Ivy,enjoy your garden. It's the best pleasure we can have!
About the puzzle:yes it is the horizon blue uniform. So the soldier is French.
In French army there were black men from the colonies mostly from Africa. But we know it's not an African troops memorial.
Then the question is:where do French black men come from?
Mark was right by searching in French Départements.

I'm going to commune with my garden too. My brain hurts. I guess the question we should ask is whether we're on the French mainland - or a departement which is a long, long way away.
          Cheers,

          Mark.

You're on the way Mark, since we are not on the mainland.
So you have to find the départements mostly inhabited by the descendants of African slaves.
Haaa,garden...Imust wait until saterday to enjoy mine.Heck.

My best guess is on Martinique Island, although I cannot find the exact place there?

Bravo Mark.In fact it was not so easy.Marie-Galante is a nice island not too much touristic. I was there few years ago and I keep good memories of my stay here.

This polychrome memorial amazed me since it's not usual in France.

                    Your turn now.

OK, something slightly different. What place is this, with a building with white walls with acne - or is it braille?

(to work out which way is up, the CCTV camera at the top may help).
                      Cheers,

If it's too difficult, we can go for a wider shot, but I'm fairly sure that this building appears elsewhere in CVF.

The hangar (technical place) of the Oslo opera?

                        Comment

Spot on Yves - obviously too easy.

I was up 'on the roof' a couple of weeks ago getting sunburnt from the direct and reflected rays of the sun! That eastern end of Oslo is like a building site at the moment, and even getting to the Opera is a bit of a challenge. To my eye the outside of the building is a bit odd and I can't get too excited about it, but the warm wooden curves of the inside and the textures of that entrance hall did appeal to me. The outside is just a bit too much like London's South Bank Centre - even though it's not quite as brutal, modern and concrete as that.

                          Back to you!!
                          Cheers,

I look forward to our next challenge from you now. Looks like several of us spent the weekend in the French overseas dependencies! I wonder where we're going next.
