  • Any model vehicle collectors out there?

Enthusiasts of the car/truck/bike/train and all things wheeled people accessing this site may well be, but it is not to say that all can afford their own Porsche, Ferrari, Curtain Sider or Chieftain Tank! So, here is the question: is anybody out there also a model vehicle collecting enthusiast?

    a) Do you have a scale model collection, eg Corgi or others? If so, do you specialise in collecting any area like WWII and military, Trucks & commercial, vintage, F1, buses & trams or bikes?

    b) Do you prefer to model make, eg Airfix or equivalent?

    c) Do you RUN your own model cars, eg radio controlled? A skill all of its own!

    The choice available is phenomenal.

Personally I collect vehicles from WWII, and I have a resonable no of models now, from armoured vehicles and tanks to staff cars and trucks. There is a large choice available so I have to be selective as I do not have museum sized display space whatsoever! I also save models of American cars from the 50s, I have some models of steam driven trucks and have a good collection of model Harley Davidson bikes.

Am I the only 'big kid' on here that has never grown up?

Or are you all 'big boys and girls' who only like 'the real thing' - and we aren't talking Pepsi here!

I adore strolling around toy and model collectors fairs - both from the point of view of seeing what new models are out and also to see which models I can recognise as being one I owned or saw as a child. I am always staggered at the huge number of people who attend these fairs - it is big business.

OR, quite separately, are you a closet model railway enthusiast? If so, what scale, where do you run your railway, do you make all your own layouts and scenery and do you run trains to timetables?!!! Reveal all!

    Over to others...

    yeap ,i am.

wel more a builder then a collecter.
the model that i collect are mostly trucks on factory livery, when they bring out a new model, and mostley daf, or what drives here from companies in the neighbourhood in the scale 1:50.

also i have some sportscars in the scale 1:18 - 1:24 -and 1:43

also i have some rc modelboats, but ready for alang.

the models that i build are truckmodels, most of them are tekno but also lion toys as wel from conrad.
i build them by order for collegedrivers and companyholders, but not in large numbers mostly one or two,one for the driver and one for me.

on this 2 plates are al the models built by myself, except the 3 yellow trucks.

on the bottem plate all of them.

om the topplate only the 4 on the left.

    top plate: neighbourhood models
    secondplate:the daf demo's
    bottom : the iveco's

and some long or heavy vehicles

and at the garret a lot of other models that don't fit in the livingroom showcase.

Some superb models, there, Janihudi. Collecting can be compulsive, but having the space to display them is another matter.

I have currently slowed down with acquiring WWII vehicles and planes, but have some great examples - really need to photograph some of them.

I have a range of tanks, but specifically like to get different and more unusual ones - be they staff cars, trucks or half tracks.

Still have the vehicles I played with as a lad in the 60s - but they are somewhat battered, now.

It's a shame to collect, but then to leave them boxed up and hidden away.

I love to visit toy fairs, even if it is just to browse.

The truck pull model reminds me of my childhood. My father designed some of the first multi engine tractors. I can remember holding a shampoo bottle of alcohol and squirting it into the supercharger to help start the engines. That's how everyone does it, right?

i don't know of everybody does that,i am not familiar with the tractor pulling teams.
sometimes i see it at the tv but don't follow it for al the ins and outs.

the trucks are started as far i know on the usial way,
i do know that the use cold ice for extra cooling for the turbo's so they get a better filling in to the cylinders

this afternoon i had a meeting with modelbuilders of the truckmodelbuildersforum.
we try this to do ones a year,we go to a highwayrestaurant in the center of holland taking some models with us and have a nice meeting.
but from the 683 members there are maybe 50 active, the others are just readers, but 25 members with a lot of models is nice
