                            Thijs,

                            My first thought - this ain't good - a self-driving MB truck......

                            http://www.namdalsavisa.no/motor/article7471732.ece

Will this be the end of truck-drivers?

                              i can't read it,but i don't think so.
at this stage there are testing to ''hook'' trucks on at the first truck.
this means that the sensors pick up the first one,and keep in touch with it,by electronica.
even now it os already common that you can switch on the distance keeper, you can set it at some meters and when the first one brakes or accelerate, the second third or more trucks will automatic do the same.
the article of the link is i think even more accurate, but it may work on the highway, but not in the city, but i don't think that it will come sofar.

Thijs, I'm asking questions again! But looking at a youTube following someone else's link, I then started looking at some of those down the side - no connection with the original whatsoever. They were videos of trucks towing extra long loads, and in several there was another truck linked on at the end. Is this to provide extra "push" as with end railway engines on steep inclines, to help with steering, or generally to keep an eye on things perhaps not too clearly visible by the front driver? Some of the loads were exceedingly long and watching them manoeuvre round narrow country road bends and tight city corners was fascinating.
