Concert photography: Indy Market free concert in Bangkok

I guess I might have exhausted some members with images within the theme concert photography today, but I dare take the risk. My hope is that some people will enjoy such images and when a professional joins, maybe can give me some directions on what works and what is not working in regards to composition, lightening and such.

As detailed in another thread, concert photography might at time be a bit tricky, especially because of varying lightening conditions.

These next images are a clear example on how difficult it might be: these images were taken so late at night that the sun no longer illuminated the subject, hence I had to seriously "up-the-ISO" to be able catching whatever light was present without having to use the flash. These images were taken by the then almost brand new EOS 50D and as far as I remember at maximum ISO setting.

                    That C sign is so me!!!!!!!!!!! . . .
But that wasn’t the only reason to like these images.
Just shows what can be done by increasing the ISO setting in these extreme situations. The lighting comes out so well in #5. My absolute favourite? :- first in #8.

Just one observation though. Of course increasing the ISO increases noise, and I think that for some subjects this graininess can actually add to the mood and character of an image. However I am thinking of random noise/grain, whereas in these images the noise seems more of a banding.
See #6 and especially the first in #7 for example. I don’t know if these were processed excessively but otherwise my understanding is that such banding, produced by the camera when it reads the data from the sensor, is very camera-model dependent.

I noticed that too... the noise in some of the images actually looks as if it comes and goes in horizontal stripes.

The ISO used in these images was a the 12800 ISO range, which is very extreme. I normally never use this kind of extreme, but as you say, in some subjects, it works and adds a special mood to the image(s).
