Re: Things you probably didn't know about NORWAY

In Norway, the NRK (National Broadcasting) wants to charge everyone with a computer, smart phone and/or iPad, a new additional broadcasting fee like the one which is already compulsory on all TV and radio sets, and in addition to the fees car rental agencies also now have to pay for the radio in their rental cars...

This could probably warrant a new thread called "Only in Norway":
                http://www.smp.no/nyheter/article7400761.ece
Where else would there be arrangement in place to take care of young star struck girls that does not get to touch, or even properly see, their Pop idol? Heartbroken girls will find someone ready and able to console them.

Widely reported (and ridiculed) in the world's media last week was that Midterm Exam (Tentamen) in Aalesund has been moved one week to allow the pupils (mostly the girls) to travel to Oslo for a concert by Bieber.
Why? Because the Principals didn't think they stood a change if competing against such an important intellectual personality and event.

Beauty is int he eye of the beholder, I assume.
But the nature around it is definitely worth a visit.

Re: Things you probably didn't know about NORWAY

As you may or may not know, Norway has two official languages, both Norwegian.
The most commonly used is "Bokmaal" (Book language) while the other is used by a minority of enthusiasts, called "Nynorsk" or New Norwegian.

PS> In reality everybody in Norway speaks a local dialect, which is different from any of the above "official" languages.

The invention of this last language is credited to Ivar Aasen, who was born 200 years ago. To celebrate this event a Video has been made and will be shown at the Airports around his home place Oersta in Sunnmore on the day.

Quite an interesting concept, I think: http://www.smp.no/kultur/article8038069.ece

Apparently, they even show this film amongst the advertisements before the movies at the cinema here in Trondheim.

I'm not a big fan of "ny-norsk" but working in a company where this is the main language, it's really hard to avoid it.

Not to get political at all, but Norway had elections this week.... and this poster came up.

Made me giggle - that's all I wanted to say. No political message.
