Norway before and now - photo comparisons.

Norway before and now - photo comparisons.

As we all know, places, buildings and vegetation changes through times, especially so in Norway where rural development has gone fast. I find these changes very interesting to study indeed - especially now with the help of digital technology.

This could also off course be a very good idea for any other city or place in the world as well. Dig up some old photographs or postcards and from them, create an updated image as of 2007 from same angle or perspective.

For those of you based anywhere in Norway and are having old photographs / postcards in your possession, please let us all see what you can come up with.

More in a similar thread at the old forum, two pages:

Norway before and now - a photo comparison.

I just love these kinds of comparisons, and recall an exhibition at the Oslo Gardemoen airport many years ago: it was awesome and extremely fascinating how landscapes change.

I had some fun today, heading out in the rain looking for places to photograph to supply to this thread...

Nidarosdomen Cathedral west-side entrance as it looked like in 1930:

And then, on March 20th 2010, the west side entrance looks like this:

Munkegaten (literally, the "monks street"), Trondheim:

Date unknown, could probably be around the 1905 or early 1900's:

On March 20th 2010, the same area looks like this:

I hope you all are enjoying this historical look at Trondheim.

Final and last comparison from Trondheim today, the Prinsen intersection in Trondheim (Prinsen literally meaning the "prince"):

              Early 1930's:

              March 20th 2010:

Thank you to Hotel Augustin for their assistance to let me visit their hotel and for their kindness in letting me take this image from one of their rooms.

At the end, for this time, I kindly invite others to do the same comparison images from other places in Norway (this thread) or other places in the world.

Got an image by mail from J-O, showing the large amount of fishing vessels in Kristiansund harbour during the large herring fishery in the 1950s.
Today I went out and placed myself in the same position (4 meters lower) as the old photographer and took a picture for comparison. It's almost 60 years between these two images....

Very cool, and what an obedient and kind man you are Sterkoder...

The view has definitely changed over the years, look at the islands in the background and the vegetation and all the new houses. Very cool....

Another image received from J-O...., a drawing of Kristiansund towards west possibly made from the viewpoint Bjørnhaugen (Bear Hill) in the 1700s

An image from the same place taken by a photographer used by Kristiansund Community, possibly in 2002.

Absolutely fantastic Sterkoder: this really gets me exited! How cool is this...

I imagined it was from another viewpoint, but I think you really, really nailed it! The transformation is stunning, to say at least.
