I was thinking to make an own thread for this detail, as I didn't want the question to disappear in a thread, but then I decided to place it here.

At Marinen (the park area behind the Nidarosdomen Cathedral, there are some cannons placed. Normally, I would walk past them but on a walk through the park recently, I needed a short break and stopped up for a moment.

During the stop, I suddenly realized that these cannons are really old and that they carries the details of a person which I think should be King Carl the 7th?

I was also surprised to see that they are decorated with what looks like an elephants head. I found that to be really strange as this is definitely not cannons from an elephant country...

Does anyone have any more details to share on these weapons?

                I think it's King Christian 7th- King of Denmark-Norway 1766-1808.

The Order of the Elephant (Danish: Elefantordenen) is the highest order of Denmark. So maybe that can be the link?

                      Why an Elephant, I wonder???????

Pak- having been around more elephant-influenced societies than I...is it true that it's bad luck to have an elephant symbolized without a curling trunk? and that a trunk raised up means you will keep good luck, and one curled downward (as above) means you send or dispense good luck?

Is it also true that it's bad luck to buy an elephant likeness for oneself?

I wonder why Pakarang hasn't been given the "order of the elephant"? He's the leader of a country, isn't he????????

Thank you so much for those inputs, extremely interesting so I'll have to return to those links when I get finished here.

So, based on the information, it could mean the canons could be more than 200 years old.
