This is the Seamen's Memorial in Trondheim: raised in memory of all those that went to sea and never came home again in the second world war. It is located at the start of Kjopmannsgata between Royal Garden Hotel and the brand new Rica Nidelven Hotel.

Last night, the west front of the Nidaros Cathedral (Nidarosdomen) was illuminated in a very special and artistic way. The illumination was a part of the "Paint My House" festival and consisted of 20 different images, projected up on the large western side of the Cathedral.

You can see the images at adressa.no beyond this link: http://www.adressa.no/student/article1282513.ece

During this festival they have previously done a similar stunt at the Berlin-dome in Berlin as well. This summer, Akropolis in Athens will get it's original color back. It is all done by large flood lights.

Needless to say, the Church had pre-approved the use of their landmark.

The back yard of the Royal Residence in Trondheim, called Stiftsgården.

A HDR version of this very same image can also be found in the HDR Gallery.

                      Great pictures, Jan-Olav!!

You have a way to take pictures that often overtop professionals!!

(And Trondheim being my city of choice to live in if I for any reason had to leave Kristiansund).

                            Nice shots.

Not sure I would recognize my hometown...Grew up in Trondheim, but moved to the USA some 30 years ago and only been back a few times, but over 10 years since now...

I drove taxi cabs in Trondheim in the late 70s and early 80s and knwo the place inside out, every street and all the hotels, restaurants, etc.

Would probably be lost there today...

As I was reading through My Little Norway today, my eye caught upon the thread on the Nidaros Cathedral. As a cathedral "nut" (there's usually so much detail to discover), and as Trondheim is now our Captain's home, I read a little on it. I thought you'd like to see yourself-- especially the wonderful photos of the cathedral before renovations in the late 1800's...
