The end of an era for Sunnmore. The one and only Seal catcher to hunt in the Western Ice this year has delivered the catch to the one and only place left in Norway where they receive seal skin.
The sealer is from Tromso, but the owner with facilities to treat the skins at least belong to a traditional Brandal family: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/soere/article10938967.ece

This is how you will cross fjords in Norway in the future: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/soere/article11148257.ece

First in Sunnmore of cause. Ferry skippers will be like dinosaurs soon, if it is up to Sunnmoringa.

The old bridges across Skodestraumen, which has been featured on CVF somewhere before, has now been given protected status: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/article11234590.ece

You can see the two bridges in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-gsfrbBr0g
(Which is actually mostly concentrating on the new bridge)

The film Bolgen - The Wave - will be released soon showing what MAY happen when Aakreneset fall into the fjord.
The film has got good critics after being shown at a Film Festival in Haugesund: http://www.smp.no/kultur/article11427872.ece
It has been purchased by 100 countries, but it is left to be seen how many will actually view it.
It is also left to be seen if the spectacular scenery will draw more visitors to the area, or if the prospect of an avalanche sometime in the not too far future will get people to shy away: http://www.smp.no/kultur/article11428336.ece

And summer in Finnmark too ... http://www.radionordkapp.no/nyheter....=23837&katID=1

(Headline is 'Summer day'. Text reads: 'Sunday 16th August was Honningsvåg's second summer day this year. At 4pm Radio Nordkapp's weather station showed a temperature of 22C'.)

With the release of the film "Bolgen" the interest for Aakernesrenna and other unstable chunks of rocks threatening to fall into the fjord, or narrow valleys are at it's peak.
This article on smp.no give a detailed view of the danger and what is being done to ensure that the danger to people are minimized: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/article11469238.ece

Sorry, all in Norwegian (Nynorsk), which Google Translate doesn't take easy to. The videos also with spoken Norwegian only. (Actually Sunnmore dialect)

There are also plans to drain water from the cracks, thus reducing the pressure and hence the movement of the rocks: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/article11437007.ece

I just wonder if an earthquake of some magnitude could set of an avalanche, WITHOUT the benefit of days of advance warning.
Earthquakes are not common in these parts, but it is not unheard of:
                      Tidlegare skjelv

I have not seen this possibility elaborated on by any of the experts.

Sande, like many other small municipalities in Sunnmore is loosing their population, mainly children: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/soere/article11500018.ece

Yet it is one of the 23 municipalities that refuse to take in more refugees, which could have solved the problem "overnight".
In stead they want the few females in child bearing age left to do their duty "during the night".

Are there any CVF members who could help out here, one way or the other??

Corrections: There are 21 municipalities in Norway who has refused to take in refugees, not 23.
Sande is not among them. I confused t with Sandoy.

Many municipalities in Norway, incl. in Sunnmore, have a shrinking population and, like in Sande, schools are in danger of shutting down due to too few children to justify the expenses to maintain class rooms and teachers for only a handful of pupils. (In some cases only 1 or 2 per class stage in Primary School)
They are welcoming refugees as long as they can find housing and jobs for them. Many places are short of labourers to perform unskilled and menial tasks.
