That winter landscape is as beautiful as mid-summer can be.... but a whole lot colder naturally!

Back onto the island in April. I'm not 100% sure when they leave - will try to confirm, but believe it's late October.

Ahhh - by pure accident I found this one, here's a link to some photos of Nils taking the reindeer across in October 2011.

I saw this when it ran on the TV last Christmas (last month I think).

A few photos from our wonderful trip to our Honningsvåg family this year. The weather was perfect for much of the time, and we felt so fortunate to be able to spend a week in this glorious part of the world, bathed in sun (or rain!) all day.

Much entertainment was derived from the work of the port authority and security teams working with the cruise ships as they arrived.

Isfuglen and her crew was particularly fun to watch, dealing with rope handling for the big ships coming onto Kai Nord or Kai 3.

Particularly at the northern end of Kai Nord, this is quite a job.

I wish I'd got some decent shots of them dealing with the floating mooring buoy on Kai 3 - that really was death defying, and totally demonstrated the need for a life vest in that job!

Not sure what the man with the axe was planning, but it was the day after they managed to snap a bow line on one of the departures.

A quiet day for the Security man.

To be fair, that can be the absolute most boring job in the world, and they were pretty efficient for most of the time.
                    Cheers,

                    Mark.

The 'new' map still seems popular. It does look great, but don't look too closely ('costal steamer' pier for example).

For some reason this view appealed to me! The ambulance crew were enjoying an ice cream nearby.

There's certainly plenty going on, at least according to the noticeboard.

                      Cheers,

Or some plastic trolls? These don't half get some attention when the cruise ships are in - I have no idea who the people in the last photo are, but since everyone else was taking a photo .....

I rather like the Kystverket building - it may be modern, but it's clean, and to my eye it fits into its corner of the town well.

                              Multi-functional building!!

(Politi / Lensmann is local police, Widerøe the local short haul airline, SAS - well you all know that one, RS is Redningselskapet - the Lifeboats).

I haven't got a clue what was going on here, but in my mind he was telling a tall tale of crime fighting derring-do!!
