My hike to Gråkallen Mountain (Trondheim)

Gråkallen is a mountain just outside of Trondheim, just 15 minutes from downtown, and the mountain is 552 meters high.

Recently, I made a hike to the top. These are the images I managed to do on the way up and down. Me hope you enjoy!

Another way to go down, on a snowboard:

The view towards the city that day was perfect. If you look closely, you can probably see the Nidaros Cathedral, the Tyholt Tower and as far back as Ranheim Church and the airport at Værnes.

Heimdal and the area which until recently was a swamp, now it contains hotels, a garbage incineration plant and lots of shopping and houses:

Southwards of Trondheim: far behind those mountains you will be able to come across the World heritage Site of Røros:

The area behind Gråkallen is called Bymarka (the city forest):

Skistua, the Ski Lodge, is open almost all days during the winter and much of the summer: serving food and coffee to people out hiking or skiing into the areas around:

I’m sometimes not very satisfied when I’ve taken photos like yours in #2 with a mass of small detail that can seem sort of over sharp – but in yours the composition with the smoother more distant mountains and especially the overall blue shade works well. Actually it’s sort of two tone colour composition with the pinkish red of rooftops and snow contrasting with the blue.

My favourite of all the images is the misty blues and yellows of #4.

It must have felt wonderful getting out there on such a day as that - I really enjoyed that virtual walk with you.

Ah, wow...., great images from a fantastic place!!!!
This inspire me to bring my camera up to the hillside and top of the "city mountain" Kvernberget....., some day.
Right now it started raining here, but maybe this week-end.
Youy know, from the Kvernberget hillside, we'll get a great view of the expantion of Kvernberget Airport, expanding from 1900 meters to 2500.

So many new threads in here tonight, but I might only write in this for now.
You see, my pc has gone "black" on me yet again, so I almost took my daughters pc out of her hands here....
Daddy is not exactly popular right now

Read your PM, Jan-Olav. Will read it yet again when coming to work Friday, and comment on it later....

Thank you so very much the three of you!

Yes, Lady E, you are right, so very right... I hate snow, but a teaching once told me to love those that you hate. I'm so fed up and tired of winter, dark naked trees, dirty snow, road salts, and freaking cold winds.

Getting out to the top of Gråkallen is a great walk: and the fantastic thing is that it takes no less than 15 minutes or so to drive from downtown to the Ski Lodge. The walk up to the top will take you another 20 minutes at a frisk pace.... and then, you are at the peak 552 meters above the fjord below.

While climbing to the top this time, I envisioned how it would have sounded when Lady E tried saying Gråkallen in Norwegian, with her southern slang... it kept bumping into my mind! .
