Enjoyed this "Sterkoder’s Bergen", both things familiar and things unfamiliar.

Bryggen's wooden buildings, and especially the alleys and backs of the famous frontage, is very your sort of thing – you have a feeling for wood.

The Vulcanus detail is for sure classic Sterkoder, and that rope "Detail from the bow of the lifeboat" #100/4 is also a instant favourite from a photography point of view.

And then comes "Fisketorget had moved inside" Oh now that's new to me as it felt very much a building site along Strandkaien on my last visit.

Just look at that carved trunk-turned-fish! And later the book sellers sign. And I too want to spend more time in the Skansen area.

Goodness I have never read Gunnar Staalesen books! – but I hugely relate to the pleasure of books that refer to places that one knows. I've enjoyed that recently in much Swedish and Danish crime writing …Copenhagen, Stockholm, Ystad! But I haven’t read the Inspector Rebus novels of Ian Rankin, set in Edinburgh, I must admit, though I did see a couple of the TV adaptations - and I think I pointed out to you Ralf that pub in Young Street (the back street of the New Town that was least changed) that features in those stories. But I don’t think the beer is anything special there, whereas you found cognac heaven in Bergen, Svein!

      A special post to Svein.

Gunnar Staalesen was here in Caen today for the Boréales Festival so I went to the auditorium with your photo of Hans Bru to show him he has a fan living in Kristiansund.

Unfortunately it was awfully crowded so I can't see him in solo.

      Next time perhaps....

Wow...., thank you for the effort!!! The sure thing is: Gunnar Staalesen, his character detective Varg Veum, Hans Bru and his bar Femte i Andre (5th in 2nd) has a huge fan in Kristiansund! :-)

Check out this video of Bergen as it MIGHT have been in 1300's...... it's wonderful to see the change over the years.

I'll include this in a future article at www.trondheimsfjorden.net (Norwegian) and in my blog at www.captainsvoyage.com (English)

Perhaps it would be an idea to include the link to the video as well?

                Silly me, my bad.

A couple of photos from a recent pre-boarding short (wet!) wander around Nøstet, across the harbour from the Hurtigruteterminalen:

My first visit to Bergen. Nice place!

Does anyone else follow artist Mark Crilley on YouTube?

He was recently a guest at the Raptus Comics Festival in Bergen, and posted a short video of the things he found interesting.
