Yes Ombugge, I remember you told that in a post. It's the reason why I made the picture ...and introduced you to my wife.

No, but my son and his girlfriend represented the family.

Good to hear that your family was represented... looking at the colourful lights from the stairs, it appears to create a wonderful atmosphere.

Nice! From the small image I'm able to see without paying an entrance fee, I guess they are talking about that egg-shaped first lifeboat, right?

Yes it is about "Brudeegget" and the trip he made across to USA in 1904-05. (I thought I had managed to bypass the paywall, but apparently not)
It is standing a bit hidden away now, but there are some who are working towards getting it back to Skansekaia where it was for many years:

This seldom happens except in the winter, when warm ocean and foehn wind across the mountains cause heat to build up, especially in the Tafjord.

The next time you are in Aalesund (in good weather) take a trip up to Grimmerhaugen, where Aalesund museum is situated.
There you will find "Brudeegget", the fully enclosed lifeboat that Capt. Brude and his crew of three sailed from Aalesund to Gloucester, USA in 1904:

If you walk north along a path you'll come to a little visited lookout point:

                            (Here viewed in reverse)

With a comfortable bench, appropriately named "Aalsundsbenken" (the Aalesund bench):

From there you can enjoy this view of the Inner Harbour and the sun setting over Giske:
