A look at the decorations in Kongens Gate:

These will be lucky to survive the weather through the X-mas days.

The named storm Dagmar passed Aalesund as we enjoyed our Turkey and Roast Pork dinner last night.
According to the news today the worst storm since New Years Eve 1992 with gusts to over 200 km/hr. in some places.
But Aalesund is generally built for this kind of thing so the damages were not too severe in town.

Here is a link to pictures on smp.no showing the damages in the district:

              No text thought.

We went for a trip to town to look for our selves today. Here is few picture of the situation and the damages we managed to find.

No major damages to be seen in this overview:

This skip had gone for a walk:

And some of the black top had been washed away on the wharf at Blixhvalen:

Mixed with some stones from the reclamation:

                  Re: This is Ålesund

The main road in and out of town had been closed for some hours due to the amount of stones that had washed up on the road:

At the Raadhus building site containers and temporary fences etc. had been blown around:

As well as some empty containers at the terminal in Skutevika:

At Brunholmen there were a bit of a mess at the Dive Centre:

In Steinvaagsundet we found a sunken barge previously used as feed store for a Salmon Farm:

Another barge, this one at the former A.M.Liaaen Shipyard, had broken moorings:

But a tug was already working to get it under control:

From here we could see more collapsed containers at Skutevika Terminal:

Next to Skansekaia. From here it looks like everything is OK in Moloveien:

The heavy fenders on the West side had been lifted up on the wharf:

Even the heavy railroad tracks at the edge of the wharf had been washed inboard:

The old buildings that houses the Harbour Master's office had suffered some minor damages:

Apparently this is not uncommon, according to one of the Harbour Assistance who would have to arrange the repairs.

Radisson Blue Hotel will need some new furniture for next summer:

The handrails will also need replacement.

The parking lot from where we observed Nordlys fighting for its life in September will need some cleaning up:

Somebody may not have got the message that a severe storm was coming:

Thanks for the report from Ålesund!!!
I just wonder, it looks like they use the front end of an old iron cannon as mooring point on the quay there. What's the story..., (if any) ?

Slinningsbua is still standing, but we took a trip to see if any damages had been inflicted by the storm:

                            Surprising that this survived, again:

Obviously solid green seas had been licking at the foundation, judging by the seaweed and driftwood that had been deposited:

I don't know how the residents in this nabouring structure enjoyed their X-mas day night:

Then to Naustberget so see how the residual swell was washing over:

Looking at the swell that far into the fjord, we went to Alnes to seen if anybody were surfing.

                              The surf is up:

What is that?? Is it seals playing in the surf???

                              Answer to follow after dinner.

Looking at the different homepages of Norwegian media, everybody just wants to show the worst damages, but your postings are far more informative.
