Re: This is Ålesund from the air

Some pictures taken through the aircraft window on approach to Aalesund Airport, Vigra two weeks ago.

PS> If they look a little over-saturated it is NOT because I have become a Photo-shopper. I had to use the "Autofix" function in Photobucket because the originals were far too dark.

A little more before we leave Aalesund entirely. Vigra is not actually part of Aalesund Township, but all of Giske Municipality has become a "suburb" since the tunnels to town are now free and the commuting time is less than 30 min. from anywhere within the area.

This is Vigra, or more specific, Roald Fishery Port:

If it looks like pleasure crafts has taken over that is precisely for that reason.

            A monument caught our eye:

There seams to be a bit of competition for the birth place of this person, "Gange-Rolv". ("Rolv the Walker", or "Rollon") between the islands of Giske and Vigra:

Since he was the founder of the Norse settlements in Normandy and, by extension, the forefather to the English monarchy of today, there is very little knowledge of his existent outside the local area and in Normandy.

              Re: This is Ålesund

He appears to have lived for a VERY long time:

But it appears the last date refere to the year the monument was erected.

I'll follow up with more from Vigra and Giske later.

I am captivated by that last panorama with delicate sky and sea colours, and both a plane AND a hurtigrute in the same view!

You may have guessed that this is not one of mine. It was shot by my eldest son using a "professional" camera with some fancy polarizing filter or something.

He was heavily into photography when younger. Even studied to become a Photo Journalist at one time, before he joined the Army. Hopefully he will take up that profession again now when he is over the "useful age" for combat soldiers. (He is 36 now and "over the hill")
Although I don't know what is most dangerous, being in a war zone armed with a gun, (and with protection of the army) or being there armed with a camera only.

PS> Some of the other photographs posted here and in the Nordlys thread is also his handywork.

                              Aalesund is developing:

An extension of Stornespiren towards the east will extend the capacity of the Cruise Terminal to allow two large Cruise Ships simultaneously and safely.

Upgrading of the Raadhus is progressing:

That's all I have seen so far.

From this angle the Raadhus doesn't stand out that much:

Not a Jugend house to be seen in this particular frame.

Anybody want to weigh in on whether the new facade is an improvement or not???
