Looking through E....'s report from Aalesund, I noticed this pics:

I must have seen this house many times but I cannot for the life of me place it, although it must be somewhere around St.Olav's Plass, I think.
    Can anybody help?

While looking at a book I have with pics from Aalesund, I realized how many of the old Jugend houses (and even some of the newer "replicas") have these weathervanes, (or "spears") adorning their towers, many with the Year of Construction marked.

Here is an example taken from that book:

It is amazing how you can notice things through the camera lense of others that you never noticed while walking those streets every day as a kid.

Great autumn weather in Ålesund today, as can be seen here on an image from Brosundet. Images taken around noon.
(Those overly obsessed with a thing for details might call this Ålesundet)

Ahhh....., breathtaking pictures!! Visited the hurtigrute/tollbod dock just three weeks ago, and I also had to stop by the columns to look at the photomontage from the past.
Really look forward to visit Aalesund again in 1½ week, as the company I work for arrange a "Julebord"-weekend at one of the hotels

Amazing shot. Look how the reflections of the traffic lights and the neon sign on the bank building shows up with MUCH brighter colour than their origin.
Is that for real or from PS manipulation??

I see somebody is working overtime at the top floor of the "Raadhus" (City Hall). Could it be the Mayor, or the janitor?

The only 'manipulation' I did on these images were resizing them to make them fit the page, nothing else. I was also quite surprised to see the traffic light and the neon sign become so strong... I used a shutter speed of 30 seconds, so that might be the reason.

It was a fantastic evening, but all images were improvised because I did not bring my tripod!.

Those display structures with the old photos are surely new since I last spent a substantial amount of time in Ålesund, as are the HSC facilities mentioned in the other thread. I can see I am overdue for another stop-over visit!
On my last hurtigruten voyage there was the summer Geiranger diversion, In Ålesund I was concentrating on helping a passenger who was wanting to see some of the art nouveau building details during the extremely short time available –and appreciated my local knowledge, such as it is, as guide on a rapid and brisk walking tour!

Pakarang, now here’s a diversion of another kind –searching through my photos that have reflections in water to see if I have captured the similar effect of brighter reflections. But I am thinking I may not often have used such long shutter speeds.

And that reminds me that I have also still to experiment with your lengthy shutter speed method of getting those star-like diffractions on points of light.

It was a really dark evening in Ålesund that night, and a 30 second shutter speed gave me about 8 in aperture-value. Naturally, a higher aperture would require even more light.

Here is another image taken out the sea, from besides the SAS hotel, also at 30 seconds shutter time... it became very dark, but the stars are clear and if you look really closely, you can barely make out the mountain.
