    Re: World hotel room views

Here is the view from our hotel in Venice.

    And, I loved the ceiling.

Must have been REALLY nice to sit by that hotel room window in Venice, looking at life passing by.

        Re: World hotel room views

The second day in Venice we had just gotten back to the hotel for a afternoon break and heard a lot of noise across the canal. There was a nice demonstration starting.

The crowd grew and became louder. Occasionally setting off firecrackers and smoke bombs.

Off to the side the police started forming their lines.

I could not understand the chants but things must have been getting more serious. The police tightened up their lines and the shields came up.

There was a loud bang from a flash grenade and a little later someone opened a can of tear gas. Both of which seamed to stop the crowd. I think the protesters were trying to move out into the streets and the police were just saying "no, you may stay here and protest".

All the while as the police were three lines deep tourists were allowed through and the protesting crowd did not bother the tourists. It was funny watching as a couple tourists with cameras around their neck or dragging a suitcase were allowed to pass but the protesters got a shove.

And look at the view from my room now. Wifey decided to stick her head out the window and watch a bit of the demonstration.

                Beautiful portrait, Dane...

What an amazing view from the room as well. What was the name of the hotel... did you say already, perhaps?

I think I forgot to mention the hotel. It is the Antiche Figure which is right across the canal from the train station. It is a relatively short walk from the people mover with only a two bridges to cross. A very nice little place. Our corner room had four windows and one was in the bathroom so I never missed a thing and the staff was very nice.

Venice is such a romantic city... have so fond memories from my years on cruise ships.

Never stayed in a hotel there though....

I wonder what hotel James Bond stayed at in Venice?

This is a standard “Maritime” style room which somehow felt a bit less stylish than the room I had previously on this floor. Could that really just have been that the bed was placed at an angle in that previous room, and had that one been business class? – I can’t remember. Anyway, never mind the room, just look out of the window!!
