Does this heading sound like something overcooked and bland???

    Think again: http://www.vg.no/reise/artikkel.php?artid=10108708

    Re: Pub Food in UK

Going off at a tangent (as usual for me!) I peeked first at this site:http://www.thehandandflowers.co.uk/a...nd_flowers.php He was apparently at Norwich at one time and seems to be doing well for himself at Marlow with 2 Michelin stars last year. That menu at http://www.thehandandflowers.co.uk/pdf/A_la_Carte.pdf is very enticing, but I COMPLAIN - as a veggie-and-fish girl there is not ONE SINGLE main dish on the a la carte menu that I would have. The Sunday one did add common or garden fish and chips, but I could get that in the local chippie down the road somewhere.
However, what I really set off to do was find the origin of the pub's name. Wiki has a very comprehensive list of names and meanings which has been beguiling me for far too long, but I can't find a Hand and Flowers. Not "The Pub With No Beer" but the pub name with no meaning. Any ideas, anyone?

No, i have never been to that one. And to be honest it sounds like the menu would be a little too fancy for me. I am not one for all those little nicely laid out meals that are only about 3 mouthfuls big. A nice rare juicy and tender steak is more me!

But i agree, mark, these days most pubs offer something at least half decent, and many offer some really nice meals at sensible prices.

Haven't been to that one, but have seen a lot of Tom Kerridge on 'Masterchef' and similar programmes. Gosh, but the food looks good.

Can honestly say that things have changed HUGELY over the past 5 to 10 years. There is some quite fantastic - and fairly cheap - pub food around these days, especially in the 'Gastro-pubs' that have popped up everywhere. Even our local brewer's chain of pubs (Wadworths) offer a wide range of well priced, well cooked food made from fresh local ingredients.

We've got a couple of local Michelin starred places - although at least one of them achieves more in terms of quality than quantity!
