WOW! You have found THE spotterplace, or the Mother of spotterplaces, around Værnes airport.
What a collection of spectacular pictures from my favourite Norwegian airport. Thank you!!

#220/4 is to me stunning, mainly due to the angle and place you took it from..., but also largely made stunning due to the fact that the Embraer there is among top five of airplane designs flying around

Did you put yourself up on Gjevingåsen with a 500mm or even a 700mm or something??

THANK YOU so very much... I hoped you would appreciate these shots, my thoughts went to you as I took and posted them. And I do agree, the Embraer is a s3xy little plane.... never thought about it before I saw that particular shot in my computer. Sleek, small and foxy!

Gjevingåsen it is (to the south of the airport)... lots of trees up there, but with a little searching I found "THE" right spot. The lens is a Canon flagship lens, the incredible 600mm/f4.0 with a x2 extender, hence an effective 1200mm/f5.6.

I suspect that the super-clear cruising images of overhead aircrafts are not taken at a distance of 11.000 meters.... this Norwegian bird came over my head today, but it's not a good photo either.

          SPOTTER ALERT!..., you hear, Jan-Olav?

In the coming 14 days periode, there will be several wide-bodied aircraft visiting Værnes, Boeing 777 and such, and the famous US AIR FORCE Lockheed C-5 Galaxy!
The first C-5 arrives at 08:05 local time Tuesday 2. February, unloading two huge Sikorsky Sea Stallion helios from US Marines.
Both equipment and soldiers will arrive, to participate in the NATO exersice Cold Responce 2016.
Trøndelag Heimevernsdistrikt 12 cooperate with the Værnes spotter-group to announce when the different large birds arrive, because they know how interesting these aircrafts are to the spotters.
          Good plane-spotting

I'll never forget the first time I saw a C-5. Aside from it's massive size the most interesting thing was when I saw a guy climb out a hatch in the top of the tail and walked around. After some inspecting back in the tail he went and a few minutes later he emerged in the cargo bay.

Engine failure in nr.3 engine. Waiting for a replace, they have to defuel and no one know when this (the one in J-Os picture) will take to the air again.
Rumors say that there will be a new C-5 arriving Værnes Monday 15. February. Time will tell.

Monday 22. February saw the best of weather at Værnes, so my daughter and I drove from Kristiansund to see the Antonov An-124 in real life.
I didn't want straight on headlight from the sun, so we drove up to Gjeving hill once we arrived Stjørdal. Here's what I managed to do with my 135mm with a little touch of cropping.

Turning off the runway onto the taxiway east

It's not the meters (the C-5 Galaxy is longer), it's the volumous cargo bay that makes this a "monster"

                  Yes, I know..., camera shake

In the distance there is H.5 (hangar 5) at the former RNoAF Pilot School (now moved to Bardufoss). H.5 was my "home" as SAAB MFI-15 Safari crew chief for 9 months.
Needless to say, the greatest 9 months of my life...

Airport facilities and ATC tower at Værnes

Time to unload the cargo from Poland. They said it was loaded with a couple of Polish Air Force MIL Mi-17 helicopters.
This was the second of three roundtrips from Wroclaw, so I guess the Polish forces participate in the NATO exercise Cold Responce 2016 with 6 Mi-17 helios.

The most popular spotter place at Værnes can be seen in the lower center of this picture. A lot of pallets are nailed together as some kind of grandstand

A Boeing 737 from Norwegian Airlines landing. A Cessna Caravan can be seen parked in the lower part of the picture

One of the six U.S.Marines Sikorsky CH-53 can be seen above the Antonov
