  • Model planes in action

Today I attended a fly-day arranged by the local model club here in Strängnäs. This is really my first attempt to photograph planes and I must say, those small ones are quite fast. My knowledge of different planes are almost zero, so I choose to not put names on the planes.

When I arrived we actually got visited by a real double-decker.

But this thread is about model planes.

Quite windy today, I would say around 4-6 m/s.

And off we go with a demonstration in Aircombat.

    Re: Model planes in action

In Aircombat you fly a very simple cheap plane with a long red paper tail. The idea is to cut the paper tails from the other 6 competitors with your wing without being cut yourself. The race goes on for 7 minutes.

This was really not simple to photograph. Small planes, fast speeds, quick maneuvers.

    One of the survivors.

Usually there's a crash or two.

But it's a part of the game. So back to the hangar and fix everything with some glue. Usually the contestents bring about 4-6 planes to a race day so they have a possibility to change and repair planes.

There were really a lot of different models flying around.

Doing more or less advanced programs.

While others were waiting for take-off.

This one I know, it's a Saab Lansen.

It's a so called 'ducted fan model'.

        Some bigger planes.

          Attack!

And to finish, to get you an idea of the size of the last planes.

What fun Tommi! I specially liked the action launch in #1/6, and the little fellow waiting for take off in #3/6! (That one almost made Sea-Troll want to take up flying!!!! )
Oh and not forgetting the matching livery of plane and owner’s cap in that last shot!

              Re: Model planes in action

In wintertime people are often slying smaller planes in inside locations.

Crash! Usually there is no damage to the planes,

but if there would be - then there always glue available!

                Double crash!

I'm sorry for the grainy pictures, low light made me go ISO 1600-3200.

Yep - I missed it too! If Ralf hadn't posted, I would have again!! Great photos of impossibly fast moving things. Fantastic and fun.

Your photos are nothing short of incredible. Fast moving airplanes inside with limited light. You've got a short depth of field and slower shutter speeds and you still got amazing photos.
